Not sure if this should be in the soccer thread or the travel thread but I'll post it here and see what happens.

I'm looking to go to aliverpool home game soon, but am having trouble finding a package for it. Has anybody gone before and if so can they recommend someone who does a package for it.

    Many thanks

If not can people let me know the best way to get tickets for a liverpool home game.

Prepare to be charged through the nose if you use any of the dedicated travel agents. irishseaexpress.com do 2 trips a day from Dublin port to Liverpool, takes about 4 hours and is very cheap at £26 return. After that the laterooms.com is quite good for rooms but if you are booking well in advance try the Ibis Hotel, Dolby Hotel and Campanile in addition to the Travelodge or Premier Inns. About 50£ a night give or take a few quid. they are quite central and good value for money. As for match tickets I don't really know. I go regularly to Tranmere where there is no problem with tickets. On some weekends when TRFC play on a Friday I have gone to Goodison where I jus phoned up the day before to their ticket office. I am guessing that it will be a bit trickier for Anfield though.

Steer clear of the travel agents as you'll be ripped off. We go every year to a home game usually in Oct-Nov. Used to get the ferry to either Holly Head or the Sea Cat straight to Liverpool. To be honest its a fair trek and your subject to bad weather. We go now by plane with either Aer Lingus or Ryanair and have never paid more than €100 return and journey time around 40 mins. You'll pick up a hotel room for around £30 STG for 2-3 people. To get tickets join a Liverpool supporters club. The main thing is to plan well in advance so to get good prices and be sure of hotels etc. Need any more info let me know.

I've been over twice, first time I went with Premier Soccer Promotions (€299). Coach and ferry was a pain in the arse and we didn't have much time to look around the city. Stayed at the Travel Inn on Vernon St, which was excellent.

Second time we booked everything ourselves. Ryanair flights (if it costs a bomb to fly to Liverpool on matchdays you can go to Blackpool and get a train). The Travel Inn was booked out so we stayed at the Dolby, which was very basic but did the job.

As for match tickets, I have an e-season ticket on the website so I got them that way. Overall the trip cost about €150 per person, half of what we paid for the package deal.

    Hope this helps

I go over about 8-9 times a year and as other people say the best thing to do is join a supporters club. I have only once last year paid more the €100 for flight tickets and thats for 2 people to any game. I book my tickets a long time in advance and sometimes fly in on the Friday evening which can be cheaper but more expensive if going for a few drinks !!! ;)

I stay in a friends house so i have so hotel fee really.

for getting tickets, sign-up as a member on the website (premium member) and you get first dibs on tickets after the season ticket holders. Otherwise you will find it trickey. Prices are about £25 each, depending on where in the ground you are.

Don't do a package deal ... absolute rip off. Ferry's, planes, trains, buses or by car will all work out cheaper and there is loads of options.

There is plenty of hotels in liverpool, book early to make sure of availability. For cheap and cheerful check out the Dolby Hotel down by the docks, very cheap and does the job.

In addition to my earlier post, I just thought of it there now! I am off to TRFC down in Swansea in a few weeks and was getting it difficult to get transport back as I couldn't stay over. Booked on the Eurolines site:
Bus from Liverpool to Dublin busaras via IRish Ferries leaving 23:00 on a Sat and getting into Dublin at 6.40am.
Very cheap indeed (Cheaper than IRish Ferries site for a one way!) which came to my rescue. Not very social hours but an option none the less. Also the different companies offer sail and rail options via Holyhead which can work out very cheap. Myself and my friend went to ARsenal in Anfield a couple of years ago which was on a midweek night. Booked early into Leeds Bradford, hired a car (90 mins drive), one night in Travelodge on docks and flight back the next morning all for 100£ all included. tickets, dinner, drinkies. It pays to get your flights booked early.

All that said I don't know how applicable these options are when LFC are at home, Tranmere have been home when Liverpool are away for years now luckily for me! Saves quite a lot
