Home game taking too long?

At our second inaugural home game last week, we had 2 more players than the previous outing. We kept the same blind schedule and amounts (i took the first one at homepokertourney.com), but it was nearly 5am before we finished (having got out by 1.30 the previous time). So, the question is, to finish at a reasonable hour, should we increase the blinds (taking out every second scale, so it ramps up a lot quicker?) or change the schedule (every 15 minutes, for example?).

What have other home game enthusiasts found works best?

what starting chips had each of you?
what blind structures did you use?
did you have buybacks and for how long?

the easiest way we find.(sometimes 12 players to 18 on occasion) is to drop the first level and or change the time schedule.if you find players coming under two much pressure too fast , increase the time again.average stack should have around 30 times big blind on all levels.(not quite sure on last point but around that )

jem, started with 1000, blind schedule as per first download on http://homepokertourney.com/downloads.htm (10/15/20/25/50...).

We had unlimited rebuys until midnight then an optional topup. This is really just to keep the money pot sweet, and keep people interested as long as poss.

Try having unlimited rebuys just ontill Level 3 and then a optional topup.

Cor, the obvious thing to do is to reduce the amount of time that buy backs last for.
We start at 8.30 and buy backs finish at 10.30, 1 buyback only allowed, no topups.
stoping people from buying back for so long will reduce the time taken substancially and will improve the standard of the game. with very long unlimited buybacks players play very loose and you lose IMHO a large amount of the skill of the game.

We have home games regularly and we don't have any buy backs or top ups.

Games usually last a couple of hours.

If we have a 10 playing we might have 2 tables to start with and reduce down to 1 table after a couple of players go.

Depends on what you want. More games or longer games.

If you want more games you have to get rid of rebuys or limit it.
