I'm trying to buy a digital camcorder on pixmania (uk site) cause it works out cheaper than the irish one. But everytime i get to the last page of the order it says:

Unfortunately, your order could not be placed, you can restart the process by clicking here:

whats going on is it because i'm ordering to irish address???

(wasnt sure where to post this so be gentle)

Not trying to be unhelpful here - but surely you should be directing this question to the people at pixmania ?

    http://www.pixmania.co.uk/uk/uk/contacts.html

It could be all manner of things from bad cc details, a problem with their website etc.

yeah i know i was going to do that but then they'd find out i was a cheap bastard trying to save a few pounds on their UK site instead of the irish one. difference of about 30euro between the two which is unreal.

Which camera are you talking about? When I was looking at digital cameras a while back, often the price on pixmania's UK website were actually higher than their IE website!

Don't forget the VAT thing too. If a retailer in an EU state does more than a certain amount of business (in monetary terms) with another, they are obliged to charge VAT at the rate of the state they are exporting to, which would negate any advantage you may think you're getting due to the UK's lower VAT rate.

its a sony camcorder HC42E its around 200 euro cheaper online than anywhere i can find here. and regarding the VAT issue i know the UK VAT is less thats why i'm using the UK one (along with a £10 discount from camera buyer guide)

are you saying that they will put an extra VAT charge on my order??

I tried the UK/Irish site thing when buying a digital camera and the UK one worked out €10 dearer.
    No problems at all.
    Camera arrived this morning. :D:D
    Cost €394 all in.
Saw it in Peats yesterday for €499

Strictly speaking they should, which is probably why they're operating different websites for each EU country to make the distinction clear.

We were traveling over to France a few months ago and the missus wanted to get a didi camera for has mother's birthday. She decided to get it delivered straight to her mothers place in the SAF and give it to her when we got there.

She made the order on the French Pixmania website on the Monday, we were due to arrive the following Friday so there was plenty of time for it to be delivered. We arrived and no sign of it, waited a few days and still no sign. She rang them and found out they had cancelled the order without telling her because she was using an Irish CC on the French version of the site. This really p1ssed me off as they should have at least contacted her to let her know it was being cancelled. Anyway, we went into the nearest small village when we found out and ended up getting the same camera even cheaper but won't be using Pixmania again because of that. Some of the descriptions of items on their site are way off too.

Most sites do this now don't they? For instance if you order something off amazon.co.uk and have it sent to a UK address you get changed UK VAT, if you get it sent to an Irish address you get charged a different level of VAT.

It's gas if i just take the camcorder with no extra's its £389.50 on UK site which = €567 but on the Irish site the price is €611!! i now VAT is different and all that but its still almost 50euro in the difference - shocking i think you'll agree

From the FAQ section of the Pixmania.co.uk site
Can I place an order to be delivered to someone else / to another country?
Yes, but the order has to be placed on the website of the country where you want it to be delivered, and bear in mind that for the security check you will be ask for some documentation that links you to the delivery address.

We ordered on the website of the country that we wanted it to be delivered (France) and as they never contacted us to ask for documentation assumed it wouldn't be needed. They just cancelled the order without telling us.

I've made several orders from the .co.uk site to save that bit extra & have never had a problem (delivery to Ireland).

    :)

Another option with Pixmania in France is to go to one of their collection points. There are a couple in Paris, and more in various cities around the country. If you want, you can pay by credit card at the time of collection, though I think you have to order within 48 hours of collecting, or call them to ask them to hold on to it for longer. More here (3rd option, "pointes retraites") :

    http://www.pixmania.com/fr/fr/engagements.html#eng5

    and here:

(in French, though Google should give the gist)

Add on an additional 4% to cover the vat differential and your difference is getting smaller. Also check the exchange rate tomorrow and see if it is had changed and the differntial might change as well !
