Woman struck by falling bus shelter in Dublin
    From:ireland.com
    Thursday, 7th July, 2005

A woman narrowly escaped serious injury today when she was struck by a falling bus shelter.

The accident occurred at about 2.30pm, when a Dublin Bus tour bus crashed into a bus stop on Cathal Brugha Street, causing it to topple and strike the woman.

She suffered minor injuries and was taken to the Mater Hospital. A spokesman for Dublin Bus said the woman was taken to hospital as a precaution.

The driver of the bus was also taken to hospital suffering from shock. Dublin Bus has opened an internal investigation to establish the cause of the accident.

Last year five people were killed when a Dublin bus ploughed into a crowded pavement on Wellington Quay.

In April, the High Court heard a case against Dublin Bus brought by a couple relating to an accident that took place in May 2000. The couple were struck by a bus that mounted the footpath after the driver blacked out behind the wheel.

There is an incredible storey related to the couple at the end of the article they won their case insomuchas they proved their injuries but Dublin Bus were found to not to be negligent.

Sometimes the law is surely an ass

The driver had a fit that couldn't have been predicted. While DB were responsible (i.e. one must have third party insurance), they weren't to blame.

yes Dublin Bus were found not to be negligent because they could not have predicted the driver could have had a blackout

seems very unfair on the poor couple especially when that scumbag that raped a girl got a large claim because his horse ran into the side of a bus

I understand one of the drivers is being prosecuted.

The headline to the article is very misleading as it gives the impression that the bus shelter collapsed by itself (with the implication that all bus shelters should be viewed with suspicion) when in fact the bus shelter collapsed as a result of being stuck by a moving vehicle.
