    20" Widescreen 1680x1050 - 2 for 1087 (any one wanna go halves?) :D

I've bought three of these in the last few months. They have been as low as €507, the price fluctuates all over the place. Great deal if you get them on the special offers. Same panel as the Apple Cinema 20", lots of inputs, and display rotation etc. Been using them with mac and pc.

This 20" is a 2005FPW right? Can someone tell me if it has bigger screen height than 1905? From the specs and on the photos it looks smaller :-/
    I'd buy *one* for myself...

    Cheers

Don't know what height the 1905 is, but the screen height of the 2005FPW is 270mm.

    hope that helps.

Thanks very much alastair. 1905 screen height is 300mm.

I have a 2005FPW, I paid €609 for it and my house mate paid €550 for one a few weeks later, so this special offer is a bit misleading.

Excellent monitor however, well worth the expense.

To clarify (before I get banned) I do not have any of these for sale.

I was merely pointing out that if 2 people got together they would get a pretty good deal.

Reading the other posts it doesnt seem that great an offer. I might have a nose around the interweb and see if you can get a similar 20" monitor for <€500

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 227 ✭✭stas

Aye, me bad then I suppose. Completely missed that offer on their site. Doh!
But at least I know the sizes now :D

Btw, as I've noticed Dell.ie is selling so called revision A01 of these, which is most notably a 16ms response time. Whereas in the States they sell rev A02, which is 12ms.
Now it's a rip off and it is crap - how fair is this?
In the States they sell them for 442 euro including shipping.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 3,354 ✭✭✭secret_squirrel

They have to offload the crap ones somewhere - why not to the gullible irish

To be (slightly) fair to dell their US shop tends to get newer stuff before the Euro shop. This 2 for 1 offer is probably to clear out the old A01's ready for the A02's.

US computer stuff is nearly always cheaper than here anyhows. Dont forget sometimes they dont include their local sales tax.

It still seems a pretty good deal though - couldnt find any similar spec'd monitors cheaper........

Yes, by a hundred or so, but here we're talking €442 vs €725, good vs cac!
Uh, it's a pointless rant, i know, but hopefully this will help someone else not to buy this and hold on till A02 is here (and priced reasonably  ).

Eh, when did 16ms refresh become 'cac'?
I've been more than happy with the ones I've bought - which were all of €60 more than the US price you're quoting, and didn't have a transatlantic delivery overhead, or risk of import duty (delivered free in fact).

Not everyone is a gamer, and 16ms is fine and dandy for most people's requirements. If they had been 12ms, it wouldn't have particularly mattered to me. Bottom line is that these are good monitors for the money, right here, right now.

Well, as I said it was a rant. Sorry if it was a bit harsh, it was my dissapointment talking.
Not cac, I agree, but slightly worse for a lot more money. I'm not blaming Dell or global capitalism for this, it's just I was and still am looking at this particular monitor and oh yes I want and need it, but now after A02 discovery it's a little bit difficult for me to decide to go for it here and now.

tbh I would be surprised if the average human eye could see much difference between 12ms and 16ms anyhow.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 227 ✭✭stas

Okay, I've just read a very good review and comparison of 2005FPW vs Apple Cinema 20", and it clears a few things up. It really seems to be the best wide LCD to date (only 2405FPW should be better). And 12ms appears to be an exaggeration, because from what I gather they are the same displays across the revisions A00-A02. It is only that A02 (May 2005) addresses some backlight issues found in earlier revisions A00 and A01. Anyone who has any of the issues could (or should) return their LCD and get a new one. I think I'll try to ring up Dell to clarify which revision are they selling atm.

So it seems it is rather I find someone who wants to split this or wait till the price drops, as there seems to be little chance to buy this one from the States as this violates Dell's policy.

Me mutters "Must... Not... Look... At... 2405FPW"

They'll be back to their €550 price in a couple of weeks anyway. (most likely)

Hey chaps! As it was expected the same day this "buy one and get another half price" offer is over they are back down to €546!

A very strange offer it was :D

In case anyone is interested, the 2005FPW is now down to €546 again. I have one, it is excellent and I highly recommend it.

Here is a direct comparison between Dell Ireland and Dell Uk for the same laptop, an Inspiron 9300 (N07935)
Well its not an exact comparison because Dell Ireland are offering "free goodies" but lets compare
    Dell Ireland http://configure.euro.dell.com/dellstore/config.aspx?c=ie&cs=iedhs1&kc=305&l=en&oc=N07935&s=dhs&sbc=inspn_9300#bottom_anchor
comes in at 1249€ including "free 100€ off" and FREE Dell Colour Inkjet Printer 720 (including Trial Ink Cartridges) Free delivery is also included, im sure if u tell them to stuff the printer they might allow 40€
    Dell England http://configure.euro.dell.com/dellstore/config.aspx?c=uk&cs=ukdhs1&kc=305&l=en&oc=N07935&s=dhs&sbc=inspn_9300
This comes in at 699£ an incredible 1013€ this is 236€ cheaper (delivery not included but no silly gimics) and typical of Rip Off Ireland, Dell believe that we are prepared to pay these prices
PS please tell me if I am missing something

That monitor has been out for about a year now. Surprised anandtech are so late to review it.

    http://reviews.designtechnica.com/review_printerfriendly1695.html

Think Dell's 2405fpw is still the best price/performance without going to crazy money and even if you do there's not much difference.
