Sleep Therapy

    Hi all :D

Been thinking about this for a while now but am not sure of where to start ... are there such things as sleep therapists in Ireland? And if so, does anyone know how to get in touch with one?

I've tried searching myself but to no avail, or should I ask a GP first?

My sleepless nights of sleep walking / sleep talking / night terrors are getting worse and worse, since Sunday I have kept my boyfriend from getting a good night's sleep two nights in a row, and I feel awful! :( So I really need to do something - would the GP probably be the best bet?

    Thanks a mil :)

Had very bad sleep disorders until last year:

Night terrors (always thought they affected kids, till I realised the intense late night effects they they have on adults)
    Sleep talking
Sometimes I would wake up the next morning thinking did I dream that or did it happen?
Went to my G.P. and she referred me to a Doctor who specialises in sleep disorders (she is meant to be very good)

Also cut out caffeine/alcohol/ or any stimulants (even painkillers)which contain caffeine.

There was a segment on today's Orla Barry radio show on Newstalk 106 all about sleep disorders. It was very interesting. I'm sure that if you emailed the show they could pass on some relevant information to you - their website is newstalk106.ie

Thanks everyone. Actually, has anybody seen Nights From Hell? There was a repeat of it on last night on C4 (or UTV or one of those channels) - it was also shown a few months ago.

Anyhoo, they had about 3 or 4 people on the show, one used sleep talk, one used to walk, etc. but I had all the problems combined, aaargh!

Rantorama - can you remember the name of the specialist you were referred to?

Its worse after a few days when you realise "Damn, that was a dream! And I thought it really happened for the last 3 days"

I think meditation is a good idea. It clears the mind, and allows you to drift easily into sleep. ( I meditate a lot, and find myself drifting into sleep, even when I don't particularly want to :p)

If you haven't ever tried meditation, maybe download some meditation scripts which you can listen to. They cost about $10 per download, and you will only need one.

I'm sure you can get specific scripts to help people get a good nights sleep. Meditation, from my experience, deals with the subconscious, and I think that it is your subconscious that is causing your sleep difficulties.

    Hope this helps,

    All the best,
    Martin

Dr.Crowe, she is one of the few doctors in Ireland who specialises in sleep disorders.
