Sore eyes after sleep

    Hi,

I've been waking up with sore, itchy, bloodhsot eyes when I sleep in my room. If I sleep in my girlfriend's house, everything is grand though.

Someone has told me that this is because there's a lack of oxygen in the room. This could be true as when I go outside for a half hour or so my eyes are fine.

I've tried leaving a window open but this leaves the room too cold. Is there anything else I could do?

Keep a bowl of water in the room and drink lots of water in case the atmosphere is too dry there.
You could of course be allergic or have developed an allergy to something in the room.

It could be a dustmite allergy. I had that problem before and I got a spray which stopped the problem.

I don't think lack of oxygen would be the problem.

This might be the problem if you're also finding your mouth becomes dry during the night.

Maybe a plant in the room.

You could also try a humidifier for the room

Actually plants use up oxygen at night rather than produce oxygen. You notice in hospitals that nurses put plants in patients' rooms during the day and take them out at night.

A humidifier might work, I could have used one myself for my old room. My current room is fine though, luckily enough. Great not waking up dehydrated all the time.

    LOL

Sounds like its something in your room that is triggering it - have a look around for any obvious differences in furniture/pets/plants/other things that may be the cause. Remove those from the bedroom and then try again.

No, lack of oxygen is not the cause.......

Well I slept in there Thursday night after leaving the window open for a good while and my eyes were bloodshot but not itchy and sore the next day.

My gf's were also bloodshot. I am just wondering would it be that she smokes in the room before we go to bed? She usually has one cigarette but its the 1 thing that I can think of that is different about the room.

Are you getting enough sleep? I know when I'm tired my eyes will look like **** immediately on waking.

eyes are always a bit bloodshot when you immediately wake up - thats quite different from itchiness.

I'd go with allergy. My eyes kill me when I wake up and theres a high pollen count and I didn't take an antihistamine before bed.

Perhaps your gf's house is surrounded by less grass or something? I know there's a huge difference to me sleeping in the country and the city. Being surrounded by grass in summer is just not a good idea for me.

I slept in the room again last night and while I don't have itchy, sore eyes this morning, I have a very dry, sore thorat.

Hmmm.. is there any dampness or mould on the walls (particularly around windows)? If so, the spores from these things can cause such symptoms.. kinda like sick house syndrome. Central heating turned on overnight without any windows open can also lead to respiratory problems.

yeah, it could be an allergy to something in your room. If you clean your room regularly, the dust could be floating around the room! And then it settles around the place. Dont put air freshners in the room either. They can irritate some people. Or as someone said before. Get an eye transplant! Lol

haha thats funny cos only yesterday our science teacher said plants take in energy from the sun (photosynthesis) in the day and store it until night, and at night they turn it into oxygen, so either your wronge or my science teachers not doing her jobicon10.gif
