Pixmania Passport Details?

Ordered a k750i off Pixmania yesterday, got the confirmation email and all that jazz, everything was fine.

About 20 minutes later I got an email saying that to confirm my cc details I had to send them a copy of passport and if I was getting it delivered to an office address I had to send them office stationary with my phone number on it to confirm I worked there.

I've never come across this before on any internet site. I've gotten stuff off pixmania before so I would trust them normally, but tbh I wouldn't give a copy of my passport out to any site on the net. I ignored the email and checked the status of my order this morning and it says my cc details have been confirmed and the phone will be shipped today...

Anyone ever hear of this before?

Yea, but Expansis are €50 dearer...

i know it's common practice in Germany to ask for a photocopy of the creditcard and a credit card statement, never seen any company asking for a passport.

Heh, was away for the weekend so I forgot to cancel the order.

Checked it yesterday and they had taken the money out of my card. I sent them a mail saying that I wasn't going to send them my passport, so either cancel the order and give me my money back, or ship the phone.

Got a reply awhile later saying "Thank you for providing the necessary documents required. Your order will be shipped as soon as possible".

A friend of mine tried to order a digital camera from a french shopping site a month or two ago, and they asked for her passport details too. And they wouldn't budge either, so she cancelled her order and got the camera from a different site. Before that, I'd never heard of sites asking for passports.

When I ordered a camera from Pixmania I emailed a scan of my ESB bill and that was grand, the order was confirmed the next day.

Well as I said I told them I wasn't going to send any additional info they requested but they sent the shipment anyway.
