Today is the first time I'll see/hear the new ODI rules being used. What do people reckon the effect of substitutions and the new fielding restriction format will have?

TBH, i'm not 100% how it will all work and i reckon it could be very like the whole designated hitter thingie they have in Baseball....bringing in a specialist who is excellent in only one part of the game...

Anyway here is a link to todays game from the bbc

Going to be interesting to see how the teams make use of the new rules, I suppose they had to try something as most games were getting a bit stale mid-innings.

Good for players like Harmison and McGrath who can just bowl their 10 overs and go and put their feet up!!

If you have to name your substitute before the toss and you choose a batter then is he only going to be useful if you bowl first???

yeah...i'm not really sure how it all works.

Harmison meentioned that he wouldn't mind being subbed. He said he'd bowl a good few more bouncers if he knew he wouldn't have to face retaliation :D

I think the choice should be made after the toss myself. And the batting team should choose at least 1 power play.

They should also bring in the 20/20 rule of a free hit when the bowler bowls a no-ball.

It's very entertaining and all but it's just a wee bit too theatrical for my tastes. :D

i think its the only fair punishment. BOwling a no-ball or a wide in cricket should never really happen. ITs an extremely sloppey mistake to make and should be punished more serverly then an extra run and ball.
