Since its holiday time again, thought i'd let re-post this thread,

    http://www.telestunt.ie/

Check it out for serious low-price international call, just called the girlfriend in Spain for the price of a national call.

Its good stuff, no need to sign up or anything handy when you dont call abroad that much.

It's saved me a good few euro in recent months. Simple and easy to use and no second bill, all comes on Eircom invoice.

This has also saved me a small fortune. :D

However just a note to anyone using BT Talk/Talk Plus. some calls are cheaper using BT rather than telestunt.ie. Off the top of my head I can't remember which destinations, but it only takes a second to check before you make that call!

I discovered these when my girlfriend went to Brazil two weeks ago. Only costs me the price of a national call, already saved myself a small fortune. I was actually going to post up a thread about it but then i saw this one.

Yes, I can vouch for telestunt.ie,fantastic rates, and I recommend that you tell as many of your friends and family as well. Pass this along. Telestunt should be supported and they are very much cheaper.

People may wonder how can telestunt offer such good rates. This is a result of VOIP at the carrier level, I think. Essentially, they contract local and other numbers in country A, carry the traffic via IP in bulk to destination countries before making a local connection in country B. I imagine this is how they operate.

This is classic disintermediation and along with other disruptive technologies entering the telecoms space such as Voip to the desktop (Skype), Voip carriers (Vonage), WiFi, and WiMax, the consumer fleecing that telecoms companies have done over the last decades is coming in for a big change. There is a revolution about to happen.

    Think of this:
always-on internet, fixed cost per month, global access
always-on voice, fixed rate per month, global access

This is where we are headed for fixed, internet and mobile/wireless. You pay one fee per month and speak to who you like for as long as you long on whatever device they have. And with competition, rates will come down from the EUR 30 per month level to the EUR 15 per month level.

no they wont. we already have the highest line rental in the whole world at €24 a month with eircom lobbying in brussels to be allowed to raise it again.

so has anyone used this who has UTV as there phone call service provider?

I assume it's ok as it says it works with eircom and NTL

So is this an all day every day offer or are the prices geared towards evening and w/e calls only?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,835 ✭✭✭StickyMcGinty

nope you only get charged whatever your provider charge you for a national call! 0818 numbers that is!

heh..to use the 1890 number to ring an irish mobile == €15/minute.

solid value to ring landlines anywhere.

78 calls to the US cost me less than €30 on my last bill.

now to see if I can get it to work with my dial up connection...:)

just noticed they have a seperate number for irish mobiles...

Do BT or UTV charge any type of a surcharge for ringing their access numbers?

Just watch out if your calls are through Euphony - they 'invisibly' mark-up the 1520/1530 numbers by 95%, and don't mention it anywhere in their rate card! But if your calls are through Eircom/BT, wysiwyg. It's a forkin great deal, wish I'd more use for it! :D

Only one thing worse than a public monoply and that's a private one. :(
The ESB were carrying out some field tests to carry signals over their system, what ever happened to that? Not that I'd get too excited about the ESB either, but it might introduce a bit of competition into the market.

Here's a couple of lines from my UTV statement:
Date Time Number Destination Duration Cost
    28/05/2005 18:28:19 0818270101 National Non Geographic 00:15:34 0.1961
    29/05/2005 20:40:32 1890943123 LoCall Non Geographic 00:41:14 0.5195

So I suppose the answer is "no".

Yeah, I call the US regularly on Telestunt all for the price of a local call - amazing value.

About using it through BT, afaik if you've switched your line rental over to BT, you will NOT be able to use TeleStunt

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 3,807 ✭✭✭chump

Well I'm on BT and pay line rental to BT and I'm able to use telestunt.
