OK I need to get out to blanchardstown for 6:00 in the morning this weekend on sat and sunday. I currently reside in Santry

I dont have my car up and running yet so what are the best options for me.

To my knowledge there are no bus services at that hour public or private.

Thinking about cycling. How long should this take. I would follow the 17a route to finglas and then the 40d route to blanch. 30-40min?

Taxi? how much would this cost? Id expect around 20 euro or so.

Anybody going out there at that time in the morning generous enough to give me a lift? ;)

I don't know those routes, but taking a quick look at my Dublin map, it looks like it's only about 3/4 miles. Cycling it would easily take less than half an hour. I have no idea what the roads/hills are like out that way though.

Its pretty flat. Thought it would be longer than 3/4 mile (thats 3 quarters right or is 3 to 4 miles )

That's the most direct route, unless you fancy cycling down the M50.

TBH the M50 would probably be a much safer cycle than the Ballycoolin road. Narrow, twisty and 10ft hedges on both sides and at that time of day cars and trucks would be flying around the bends.

Yea thats the part im most afraid of. But hopefully that early in the morning there wont be much traffic on the road.

Juts looked at the map there and it looks like 3-4 miles alright. 30 min seems a reasonable. I havent cycled in years so i dont want to be cycling like Lance Armstrong that early in the morning to be in time for work

Id say it's more like 6-7 miles depending on where in Santry and Blanch.

Dunsink lane would be a better route but it is blocked off. You could probably cycle through it though.

THat distance sounds a bit more like it to me.

Dunsik Lane wouldn't a be a safe route in my eyes. Those back roads are lethal to cyclists and there tends to be a fair bit of stuff around there to pucture or dismount you very easily. The canal route sounds safer and pleasant but might be a tad longer but nearly guaranteed to be flat. I might just do it tomorrow for fun :) You would get fit doing that twice a day

Foregot to mention there are a few private busses that go from Santry (and other places) to Blanch business parks, you should be able to find out about them at the park.

yea I'd be very cautious on those roads. Big cement trucks use the roads and cars fly up and down them. Some even race on those roads because of the twisty nature so be careful

    Not to worry.
Did the cycle to and from work and it was grand to be honest. Took around 35-40 min.

My friend measured it at 6 miles. Its from DCU in Santry to Ebay out in Blanch corporate park so I just followed collins ave to the west side of finglas and the onto ballycoolin road to Ebay. IT the straighest route possible

Never realised Im so unfit! My legs are kinda numb now and i had to stop for a break this morning! :) But id say after a few weeks you would be as fit as anything.

That wont be me though as im getting my car fixed and insured next week :D
