I'm thinking about buying a Marshall AVT 50 amp, I was just wondering if anyone has one, and could tell me if they're any good, or if anyone has any alternatives around the same price (there's 20% off in musicmaker, so that's about 425 quid)

    Thanks

Get a used valve amp for that price. Or buy online and get a Peavey classic 30 for about €500. If you dont want valves get a Line 6 amp. Most valve and modelling amps are infinitely better than the AVT50

The AVT is a valve amp.

No its not. Its a solidstate amp with one valve in the preamp. What you want is an ALL valve amp.

    Freak knows his stuff.

They're pretty plain amps in my opinion. Get a Peavey Classic instead.

Oh, right. Sorry 'bout that. What sort of amp should I go for, I like the Clash, Radiohead, Green Day (Their early stuff moreso than their recent stuff). What amp would be good for these types of music?

Ive played AVT's, they dont sound that bad. Not as bad as an MG... Id take one over a lot of amps but the Peavey Classic is a completely different amp altogether. It wont have as much gain as the AVT probably but it will sound a LOT better... You can always get a pedal if you need more gain. Check out http://www.musikproduktiv.de for prices on the Peavey. If you try to sell an AVT in a few years time you wont get €200 for it.

Thing is, I don't have the money for a pedal as well as an amp. I'll play a few amps, and see which I like better. Thanks for the advice

But the Peavey should be grand for the moment. Buy a pedal in a few months if you think you need it. But BUY ONLINE! Ireland is a ripoff
