Why HP and what specs are you looking for and how much do you want to spend?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 4,943 ✭✭✭Mutant_Fruit

And how many of them are you thinking of getting. I might be able to provide a cheap solution. I'd need eithe detailed specs, or at the very least you telling me roughly how much you want to spend per computer (or in total) and roughly what performance you're looking for (i.e. what they'll be used for).

What the guys said. Post requirements, budget and number of PCs here and the people here will suggest a good deal

Why indeed does it have to be HP/Compaq?

    New site or upgrade ?

Do you need windows licenses ?
Do you need OEM office (avoid if possible)
Because both are cheaper from the likes of HP/Dell etc.

But unbranded bare bones systems with no software can be way cheaper than any of the big brands if you don't need an all singing machine.

Do you need monitors or not ?

Guys this is the spec im looking for :-

    P4 530 (3.0GHz) 512MB, 80GB SATA (7200 rpm), no floppy, CD-Rom, XP Pro, 3-1-1 Wrnty (optical mouse)

I'm looking for monitors also, I think CRTs are on the menu. the PC's will be used for MS office applications, some internal apps, nothing heavy.

I'm looking at hp for the after-sales support really, and its what they have here so its to keep the branding the same. saying that you never know if there was a massive difference in price we might change.

The compaq desktops are coming in at 699 for the above spec.

    Thanks

If its for general office use, why you require a 3ghz machine?

Find that strange. Would save if you went for 2.4ghz or so Celeron, which would still be way more then enough for office day to day work.

Using a 1.2ghz p4 here at work, and although its used constantly, for the actual work it handles it might as well be a 500mhz machine

actually guys the above price is with 17 inch TFT's. I doubt anyone can compete with that.

    Thanks anyhow..

If you become a dell business customer some great deals to be had. Does the compaq for 699 come with office oem? And is this net price or does it include vat. Latest machine I got from Dell was a Dimension 3000 Specs are:

    Pentium 4 2.8GHz, 533fsb, 1mb cache
    512mb DDR Ram
    160Gb hARD dRIVE
    17" Flat Panel Monitor
    CD-RW/DVD Combo
    XP Home
All this for €479 Excluding Delivery and Vat.

To include Microsoft Office Small Business 2003 was an extra €260.

    So thats €739 plus vat(@21%= €894.19)

Firstly, i'd say you could easily settle with a slightly slower CPU. I use a 2.4ghz celeron in work for programming work and basic office stuff, and its grand. A 3ghz P4 is a bit much for the work you're putting it through.

How many computers are you thinking of getting? That affects the price. Do you reqire any software other than XP? I think XP (and other software) would be far cheaper if you went direct to microsoft and asked for X number of licenses for your company. That also means you can legally change computers and still use the same license numbers (providing its uninstalled off the old machine).

Just a word of warning on this machine, there's no graphics slot in these. That means, no agp or pci-e slot so if these are gonna be used for CAD or any graphics programs, best go for something different. The DC7100 are a good machine with plenty of room for expansion. Also note, if you need floppy drives, ask for them because AFAIK, all HP Compaq models come without floppy drives.

    I could get...

    Antec 300W PSU
    Intel Pentium 4 530 (3ghz)
    512MB DDR PC3200
    56x CD-ROM
Midi Tower Black (you may want to choose a different case to match existing computers better)
    Hitachi Deskstar 80Gb HD
    ASRock 775S61 Socket 775 Motherboard

for only €450. Now, thats without a monitor. If you need one, add €100 (ish) for a 17". If you order in large enough bulk, i should be able to reduce the price. It all depends on how many you want.

Alternatively, add about €150 (from the top of my head) for a 15" LCD.

EDIT: Ex postage. Won't know postage costs til i know how many i'm ordering

If you want a low range comp, go with dell, building is more expensive, but if you're spending a good bit on them, build a load.
