I think Darth Vader said it best: NOOOOOOOOOO!

We're gonna be hearing about this non-stop for the next 7 ****ing years on Brit telly!

What kind of people could choose London in preference over Paris FFS!??

I'd rather this didn't turn into a slagging match.

I'm glad London got it, who cares that the British media will have a field day with this they're entitled to it. This is an Olympic games virtually on our doorstep, we should be chuffed!

Great for London to get it and I think it will be good for Ireland as well, they reckon people will be looking to stay here before hand and we might get some nice new facilities. Best of luck to them.

Does really matter too much to me , im only going to be watching it on telly anyway . Although at least London might get a decent transport system going now .

This'll be interesting. Pistol shooting is a third of the olympic shooting events, the olympic charter says everyone has to be able to train equally in any olympic sport they choose in an olympic bid country, but pistol shooting's illegal in the UK...

Yeah, 'Brit telly' was a bit of a harsh phrase to use, but you get what I mean I'm sure.

I thought Paris would make a much better Host City though; the city is much neater in it's layout than London, the place is less gray, better summer weather, the people were really enthusiastic for this bid, after losing to Beijing they've been done twice in a row, most sports' official language is French which might have lent a bit of a 'home' atmosphere to a lot of the events(eg cycling, fencing, athlethics, swimming etc)

I could probably think of a few hundred more reasons too :)

But still it will be cool having them on our doorstep!

And if Ireland was in the running for an olympic bid what would the TV be like? Come on be serious. If the pope came over same thing. Start being serious, all media the world over is the same, had paris one all the french channels would be having a field day. Another point is this is a great chance for Irish people to go to the games, when has it been so close and with so much access to everyone, we have ryanair, easyjet and loads of other cheap airlines, we have the magical boats it means that everyone here can have a chance to go see the olympics without costing a fortune!

And on a final note WOOOOOOHOOOOOO LONDON 2012!!!

Exactly. Its the nearest thing that Ireland will ever get to hosting the games, and with all of the coverage that it will get on the 'brit' tv, Ireland may end up with a few more youngsters getting excited about the possibility of taking part in the games and have a few more contenders in some events than they have managed previously.

This is a great thing for Irish sport. If has been on the radio already that a number of countries have already enquired about using Ireland as a training base. This means alot of income for the country from increased tourism and this will be used to build better sporting facilities to accomodate the countries who wish to train here.

We badly need to improve this countries sporting facilities and now we have the perfect excuse to do it. Even if we dont drastically improve our facilities any improvements will be very welcome indeed. Im delighted this has happened its the best thing Ireland could have hoped for.

On another note it also guarantees that I will be going to the Olympics to support our Irish athletes in 2012.
