torrent speeds up & down like a YO-YO

    Hi,
of late my .torrents are downloading with varying speeds. One minute they're downloading at 100 kbps the next it's like 1kbps. !!!!

I'm using Azeurus and have changed my port from the usual 6881. This hasn't effected performance.
I have the green face so it looks pretty cool from the clients end.. the tracker also lookes good.
My upload speed is only 8 kbps so that's not effecting it.

When I look on "DU meter" the graph is pretty wavy - but looks like there is a pattern - great dl speeds for about 20 seconds - shiity dl speeds for twenty seconds - great dl speeds for about 20 seconds - shiity dl speeds for twenty seconds.....etc.

Has anybody else getting these results? Mind you it doesn't happen on all torrents just very popular ones.

Any help with this would be great.......

    TY

The nature of torrents is that you rarely get a reliable speed.

try grabbing something from www.welcometothescene.com, or get the latest version of Azureus via bittorrent. i.e. something with lots of seeds. If your speeds are still slow, its traffic limiting, if they're fast, its just because you are using slow torrents.

Ensure you have the very latest Java or you'll have all sorts of issues with Azureus
You should have installed and used jre-1_5_0_04-windows-i586-p.exe

    A download at 100kps ? I certainly wouldn't complain about that.
I'm using Azureus and yet to see speeds over 25Kbs downloading.
It's taking about 7 days to download a 4.5Gb file of "Blakes 7" 2nd series.
( NTL starter pack, with 1000kps download, 100kps upload )

I thought the download speed is dictated by how fast the other peers can upload ? Even then, the uploaders share their upload limit with other peers and
    other torrents they share.

    regards,
    Owen

Ive got 210K/s only a couple of times with an entire torrent.

Normially hover on the 25-50K/s mark myself...but my java is 1.3 or something, so might update that and see what happens.

MAn torrent is like p2p more seeders faster DL but nowadays people want to leech and not seed with good ULs, what I mean is you expect DLs to be your Max Bandwidth but you dont want to use your max upload!! hence TOrrenting is choking at the moment imho !

watch your Torrent connection to other peers the majority are sharing at 5 - 10 kbs !! Dial up speeds BAHhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

    what do you think lads?

I leave mine on max ul and dl and usually mine are good !

yeah, depends aswell on your ratio. The better your ratio the better download you will get.

make sure your using a good tracker, where ppl actually care about seeding and every1 isn't just leeching.

demonoid is a good one to check out, although they are not accepting any new user sign-ups at the moment. Keep, looking it up though, they were accepting new users there last week... so it migh be a while
