    Hey Folks,

I have some video files that I just can't seem to get good codecs for them. They used to work at one point, but after trying all the obvious ones I could think of such as Divx and xVid etc, they still don't play. I have sound but no picture.
Anyone got any good all encompassing codes they can recommend?

    Many thanks

Do a search for K-Lite Mega Codec Pack and you will get a LOT od codecs in that pack.

If you are trying to play h.264 encoded videos then your in a world of pain as they are a difficult type of video to play even using Quicktime7.

Keep up to date on your codec searches.

VLC will play anything whether you have the right codecs or not: http://www.videolan.org/vlc/

you could check the fiels with gspot if they have .avi in the file name????
ffdshow is one people like also

I second the ffdshow recommendation...saved me a couple of times.

VLC is allruight but makes a mess of AAC decodeing.

K-lite is still the best as it has encoders/decoders and Media Player Classic all packaged in a nice bundle!!!

Ace Mega Codec Pack is the best, it contains every codec you need.
I only install this and never had any codec issues.

You can check it out here...

    Many thanks Guys,

There were quite a few there that I had never heard of. I'll give them a go tonight hopefully and let you know how I got on. Thanks for the advice, always appreciated.
