They're currently discussed on Books (which has a big sf following), and Film/TV, which has all the x-files, ST, SW heads.

It's a nice idea, but do we really need it?

There'll be chess and cricket boards next... (and I do like both of those, so I aint slagging )

One of the main reasons i suggested this was i visited trolls and some post from sicence was moved there cause it was a sci-fi. No offence trojan but i think it would be good and u just gave yourpersonal opinion others might feel differently.

I'd agree with Trojan, very little else discussed in Literature for a start (if you include fantasy that is)

Maybe because on the science board occy is the admin and may have felt it wasn't needed in the board. I'm all up for a sci-fi board.

That's exactly what's wrong with the situation, and is a bad reason for a sf board.

What needs to happen is mods like Victor & Occy to be edumacated in the ways of The Force!

But infairness it would be nice to have for many things ie sci-fi films comics games technology aliens and what not. And i did say it was only a suggestion that does not give everyone the right to take it out on the current mods.

Well how about this, i know its kinda silly but could work. Combine RPG with a Sci Fi board since RPG dont get much traffic and RPG people would genrally like Sci Fi. Making the board a bit more interesting and satisfiing the Sci Fi boards since they wouldnt be massivly acive, or would they?

anyone got the hit count of boards?? i mean u know average hits per day for certain boards i.e Counter strike hits per hour 56 posts 1000 viewers. that type of thing. Cause you cant tell if theirs a need for a board or not...

I mean some boards get very little traffic so should be rolled into others e.g: Wargames could be military (rec elsewhere) and both topics can be discussed.

About taking away from films and literature. Dont know about literature but films/tv topics run mostly on NEW FILM, END START OR CERTAIN EPISODE OF SERIES OR TOP 10 whaever. a few h8 this and luv this station posts. So i dont think it wouldnt take away.


Sci fi post will probably turn into argueing star trek v star wars, theories, originality topics and diverse conspiracy topics. It would be good. And the idea of mixing it with rpg is good.


So instead of new boards it could be time to check how boards work.

I had a look at that post, it was innocuous enough, maybe deserved a locking rather than a trolling.

I still don't think we need a new board. Rather, we need to smack some of these fascist admins like Victor, Occy, et al, so that they don't delete every bloody post that doesn't agree with their world view.

Don't you guys understand what boards is about? It's about discussion, be it inane, sometimes not so relevant, othertimes bang on the mark.

It's not about you muppets going on power-trips with your delete keys everytime you spot something thats only vaguely relevant.

I'm dissappointed in some of you mods here at the moment, you're destroying what you are supposed to maintain.

The LC English examiners have a great test for relevance for essays and their topic:

Sci Fi would not only emcompass 2 boards it would have interests in the gaming boards aswell,

I know for a fatc that allot of sci fi shows have rpg's, ccg's, computer games, books, comic etc... based upon them,


as far as the argument about taking away from the opther boards is concerned,

wasnt that argument used to try and stop the creation of the counter strike board????

Personally I can see a some room for improvement on boards mainly with the likes of the less posted on boards being folded in to one. Star trek v star wars is a personal perspective everyone is intitled to there own opinion.

I endorse this product or service, personally i want a Babylon 5/Star Trek board but i suppose there is room for others,life the universe and everything , maybe thats the babelfish talking.

Seriously though- in that thread, not a single person was discussing the issue in a scientific manner. Before the post could degenerate even further into a Roswell/Area 51 troll, I simply moved it there, to Trolls. Saying I should have locked it doesn't make sense- there would have been no way to continue the discussion. As there was no sci-fi or paranormal board, I thought they might want to carry on discussing whether or not the impossible could happen in a reasonably pop-TV manner.

Note that I prompt people to suggest a board where topics like that could fit. That thread neither fits into Humanities or Science. DeVore posted very early on that the science board was to be for science (suprisingly enough)and not for proxy subjects- like the ethics/philosophy of science, or sci-fi/paranormal events.

I like to see lively discussion as much as anyone else. It's just that when you have conspiracy theory locking horns with conspiracy theory, it becomes a long, unsupportable troll. No one quoted a source or a link, it was simply a hypothetical ramble. So long as there is some vaguely scientific discussion taking place, that's going somewhere, I leave it alone. Anyone remember the "Real Star Trek Tech" thread? It had a scientific basis, and was a darn good read. In any event, I'm convinced I did the right thing given the circumstances- people are free to go over to Trolls and discuss it in any manner they wish.

On a more productive note, I'm totally with PHB on this one- it's definately true that RPG fans are also into Sci-Fi (look at Lloth, myself, others)- a combined board would be very much appreciated. Rather than spreading the topics amongst After Hours, Wargames, Films/TV and Literature, there would be a board to accomodate all these things. Very very good idea indeed PHB- I'd support that board- and would be glad to help moderate it (unless Trojan wants the job)
