Long drawn out story and i wont bore you all with the details here, basically i want to travel with my g/f over to swansea on the 16th of July and return on the 19th, so i went online to check out prices and on the stenaline website i saw some good deals for a rail and sail option from rosslare to fishguard then onto swansea.

Granted the prices were only available until 11th of june but the price was as follows:
    off peak - €34
    peak - €40

So i thought grand, i'm traveling in july which would be high season and would stung for peak time prices. :-\

Also should mention that g/f's parents go to swansea (visiting family) about 3-4 times a year this way and they said it was always in or around €35-40

Anyways, last night g/f rang rosslare to get prices and we were told it was now €70 per person. Needless to say i was like wtf, and having thought about it for a while i said i would ring today as i did'nt think that price could be right. g/f's parents were shocked when we told them the price as they never payed anything like that.

Onto today, just got off the phone, this time i rang the dublin number on the stenalines website that they give for rail and sail information and priced it from them, this time i was told it was €80. she said it was €80 for the months of july and august.

Now i always forget to ask questions when i'm on the phone so i'm planning to ring again later and question those prices.

Is it just me or those this seem like a complete rip off? €35-40 is grand i'd even have expected another few euros for the fact that it's july but double the normal price? that's just crazy.

when i ring later i'm gonna question why the hell it's double the normal price for july and august, that just does'nt make sense.

july and august are peak holiday months with kids off school and families going on holidays.
Rotten as it is, at times like that they can charge what they like up to what the market will bear as they know they will have a fairly full boat.
If you dont buy the ticket someone else will.

They give off peak and special lower fare offers at other times to encourage people to buy when the boats are less full.
