    Are you entitled to compensation if your flight is delayed and the flight is part of a package holiday. If you are, how much are you entitled to and who do you contact about recieving the compensation.

    Check the terms & conditions of the Tour Operators brochure - it will explain in detail what (if any) compensation you are entitled to for flight delays. Acts of God do not fall under this & normally financial compensation kicks in ONLY after 24 hours. Also check your own travel insurance to see if it offers better cover.

    I believe if your flight is delayed more than 2 hours and it's the airlines fault then you may be entitled to compensation. New laws came into force in February.

    This is the new law (according to www.oasis.gov.ie)

    Delayed flights
    In the event of long delays (two hours or more, depending on the distance of the flight), passengers must in every case be offered:

    Free meals and refreshments plus two free telephone calls, telex or fax messages, or e-mails;

    Where the time of departure is deferred until the next day, passengers must also be offered hotel accommodation and transport between the airport and the place of accommodation;

    Where the time of departure is deferred until the next day, passengers must also be offered hotel accommodation and transport between the airport and the place of accommodation;

    When the delay is five hours or longer, passengers may opt for reimbursement of the full cost of the ticket together with, when relevant, a return flight to the first point of departure.
