Saab 900 Cabrio

    Hi,

I was wondering if anyone can shine some light on the issue I have...?

I was looking at purchasing a Saab 900 Cabrio SE or Turbo from 89 or 91, this car I believe is well on the way to attaining "classic" status.
My issue as with so many people is with insurance as I am not sure the best way to go with it!

I will want to use it every day but my commuting distance is only 12 miles round trip, so I wouldn’t be putting a high mileage on the vehicle per year only 6000 or less.

Hibernian quoted me over €2000 as I live in Dublin and I am only 27.

I was thinking of putting the car in my girlfriends name (so it would be her second car),then having the insurance marked as Wexford as that’s where she lives and then with me as a name driver?

I also saw a few people on this site have classic policies for everyday use and was wondering if anyone wanted to throw in a few ideas as to the next logical step forward is going down that route.

I am also currently named on a few classic policies with Axa for vehicles that are over 50 years old...Would you say that would have any sway?

    All info greatly appreciated

you'll do very well to get classic insurance on a Saab 900, they just dont buy into it yet. The cabrios are worth a hefty amount, you are looking at 8 grand plus, for a 27 year old in dublin with a decent perfomance 2 litre engine and a convertible 2K seems about right tbh. try the girlfriend route first, it reduced my insurance by having my wife insure our 900 3dr with me named by over 1500 compared with me being the main driver!!!!
