Probably a minor point but I thought it was worth making...

Usernames are case sensitive, right?

So that means if someone registers and posts under the username... say... "JimmyJoeJoeShabadu", then someone could feasibly register under the *different* name "jimmyJoeJoeShabadu" (lower case j at the start) and give the first JimmyJoeJoe a bad name...

Also karma could easily end up awarded to the wrong person in such situations.

... so my suggestion, which I'm making in a round-about way, is to make User names not be case sensitive. What do you think?

Well as far as I know karma is meant to be given for the offending post only, which makes it impossible for the wrong person to be given bad karma (that's if mods stick to that rule), also if the wrong person was given bad karma there is a method in place to have the balance restored i.e. explain/complain (delete as necessary) to the admins and they will usually fix it.

As for un-case sensitizing things, it would probably be a nightmare, not to mention that there are possibly some usernames already that are spelt the same in different cases which means one of that pair/two of that triplet/three of that quadruplet... would have to give up their username.

Sorry but I don't agree for common sense reasons.

P.S. you do have a good point about the wrong person getting a bad reputation, just probably not from his Karma

That's where "Post Count:" and "Registered date:" come in handy.
It may be slightly more convincing now that they've been taken out of the left frame bit under the username
The only thing that sticks out a mile now is the number of stars and poster staus, which can easily be missed when skimming through a topic.
But if someone's made a cheap copy account with (almost) your username, then it's most likely they'll just post flaming crap... I can't see them being very subtle about it.

Another danger arises from the 'extended' characters... not sure wheather they're stripped nowdays, but look:

Bard becomes:

Bárd
ßard
Bärd

or

Baz_ becomes:

Baz—
Baz…

Maybe something that [a] strips non-alpha charactors and checks for portions of already reg'ed usernames within the new name being registered?

Ok, not entirely convincing... but you see what I'm getting at.
It'd probably involve a messy UBB hack to disable the extended chars, but I just thought I'd throw this in the thread while we're on the subject.

YES! Pedanticmen are here to save us from all things simple! Not faster than a flying bullet unless they were flying in Concorde (French obviously cos the British still have theirs grounded). Not able to leap tall buildings in a single bound because the velocity required would crush the one leg that would be used to create the force required. Not stronger than a steaming locomotive if you could find such a specimen in this deisel powered age, although there are a number of Heritage trains that have restored over time in Wales that may be used as a valid comparison......
