... but it happened suddenly, mark you!

    --

Every so often, one of the "top 10" or "top 5" sections on the home page seems to draw a blank, showing (seemingly) that there are no postings in the boards, forums or newsgroups... which is of course ... silly.

Only - just now, it happened on all three...

To illustrate my point, heres... an illustration.

I was just wondering if one of you admin types could explain why this happens occasionally. Usually, btw, it's just one of the areas that shows a blank like this...

This happened... 3 minutes before I made this posting wink.gif

That would make some sort of sense as the change of day probably flucks about with it for the first "refresh" of the day... but I've seen it happen at other times also...

you know what bard, sometimes you remind me of when i was doing tech support for IBM and users would call us up and ask us questions.
like why is the default wallpaper in windows 98 blue. or why is the pointing device called a mouse. what is the average airspeed of an unladen swallow etc etc etc.
you certainly like to know 'why' dont you!

I blame the Dreaded Batter Pudding Hurler of Bexhill-on-Sea...it's all his fault!!

Seriously- I think it has something to do with time-settings or something. Or it could just be that no one's posted in a while(ie- who knows? not me...) Refreshing the page usually does the trick for me.

Oh yes the 1231 bug from boards.ie, I spotted that around midnight of 17 July. Very interesting it was too. Yes.

    Alright amp, alright tongue.gif

Sorry to be so picky, but I guess it comes from having done tech support a lot myself and also having done QA and bug tracking and fixing on a number of web sites. It's the kind of thing that I'd imagine the people who run a site would appreciate having brought to their attention.

BTW: Should have known you'd pick up on the (small) Goon reference, Occy rolleyes.gif ... and yeah, WhiteWashMan - I like to know why things happen... I'm a curious fellah...

As ever Bard, I see a post and I think of something I think is a funny response and I reply. It's rarely personal. Except of course when replying to DeV the donkey spanking fascist ogre!

I'm curious too actually. Something I've always wanted to know is what the boards actually runs on. Is it a Dell Poweredge with redundant PSU's and quad xeons with like 6gbs of ram and a big fibre netcard going into a gigantic rack full of lights and cables.

Or is it in fact a 386 laptop hidden under Clouds bed?
