Copying files to Memory Key

    Hi I just got a memory key from a friend and tried to copy files to it. I plugged it in to USB and it says found new hardware but when I tried to copy it says insert disc indrive even though it is there .What am I doing wrong

    You may need to format the drive before you can copy files to it. FAT / FAT32 is usually best for memory keys.

    EDIT: I didn't quite read your post properly. This is an old key? That your friend has used before? If so formatting will lose any data currently stored on it. What OS are you using? Is it windows 98 by any chance? And your friend has the key formatted as NTFS? Or is one of you on a Mac and the other a PC?

    Windows Xp and it is a new key with nothing on it

    Sometimes the drive letters get mixed up and it thinks its your floppy drive or your CD rom. Try changing the drive letter to something like "X" in computer management.

    Control Panel -> Administrative tools -> computer management -> Disk management.

    Now select the drive that has been assigned to the memory key and change it to something that has never been used be for, like "X" or "Z".

    Right Click on the drive -> Change drive letter and paths.
