I'm going interrailing in the summer around germany, austria and italy.
I'm 26 and have to pay for a 26 and over ticket which costs €409, the under 26 ticket costs €289.
Does anyone know if I'll get away with buying a €289 ticket, how strict are they when checking tickets on the train.

It depends on the country, but I dont think they would check your age much. The smaller countries are the ones to worry about, I did it last summer for two weeks and the only place I had trouble was in Sitz, Austria and Holland (although that was justified.)

Id say you would be better off just paying the odds and doing it right. The train cops in all countries dont take any **** and they would have no problem dumping you in the middle of nowhere and taking your ticket.

Nowhere will let you buy an under-26 ticket unless your passport says you are under 26 anyway.

The price has gone down from 409 to 396 for over-26s if it makes any difference. That's what I paid in the USIT on Aston Quay when I bought mine a few weeks ago.

Umm when you get your ticket in USIT, I'm pretty sure you need to show some ID which'll show your true age. Time to cough up..

Didn't realise you need your passport when purchasing.
Thats the end of that so.
    Cheers.

So has anyone any other advice with regard to essential things to bring along.
