Hmmm... we are fond of taking day trips up to Sainsburys where the value is a hell of a lot better than down here. 40 bottles of Stella 33cl for €30 and gorgeous Devils Rock Riesling for €6.75

I drink the Pils beer in Lidl and think it's great.

Marks and Spencer Chenin Blanc - 6 Euro a bottle. Can't go wrong with it.

Even, dare I say it, the Tesco Chenin Blanc at 8.99 is very drinkable on a summer's evening.

Bend in the River Rose Wine (can get it everywhere -look for the distinctive tall, perfume-like bottle, frosted glass). 9 Euro in most places, 9% alcohol - it's like drinking fruit juice. Yum.

The Lidl German pils is very good. Bergadler, EUR 6.99 for 6.
http://www.superplonk.co.uk/ is a good resource for wine, written Malcolm Gluck, wine reviewer in the Guardian. It's aimed at the UK market, so the prices are in sterling and some of the retailers don't operate here, but it's still worth a look to find the best value wines in Tesco, M&S, Aldi etc.

Have a look in O'Briens off-license they have some good beer offers on

    24*33cl Stella Artois= €24
    24*Moser German Pils=€24
    24*Rolling Rock (pish)=€22ish
24*Grolsch Dutch Pils =€24 (watch the head)
some other beers, sometimes they have Warsteiner at €24, in any case most beers that were considered Premiums not so long ago are now available at €1 a bottle, there is still hope for this country.:P
