There's a post about http://www.pimpwar.com on the webgames board. A game I intend to play in the next round. As this is an over 18's game what should we allow and what should not be allowed? Or is "anything goes" ok?

The boards.ie staff can't really be responsible for what people post (maybe a disclaimer is needed, a link on every page as well as the one you agree to when you sign up).
One way to deal with this kind of the responsibly would be to give moderators the option to put a warning on a post and change that post to a link to the actual content of the post. Hmm.... that explained properly?
    Example:
Someone posts a link that contains adult material (not porn that should be deleted, but material only suitable for over 18s). The board mod sees it and decides it's not appropriate for younger viewers. He can click a link on the post and give the post a rating (15's, 18's, not appropriate in work smile.gif <- That would be dead handy! ). When the post is rated it becomes a post with a warning and a link to see the content of the orignal post that pops up in a new window.

It wouldn't stop people from viewing certain content, in fact it might make somethings more enticing, but it would definetely cover boards.ie's asses against any legal action.

    What ye think?

Sounds like a good idea to me. Fair, legally cautious and not pi$$ing off anyone smile.gif.

Well since that most of the gamers are genrally exposed to r*p* and such all the time, i dont think its that appropriate. Then again if its a legal problem maybe 18's or over only, but that would just make more ppl look at it.

    Interesting problem...

I'd say use your commonsense. If its discussing tactics in the game then fair enough, if its explicit then cut it.

If its an image. Kill it stone dead and mail me smile.gif

Some of those "15's" and "18's" icons used for films as icons for your "message icon" would be good, so someone could see before they click the link if it's going to contain stuff they don't want to see, but would people use them?

Personally I think it would be an incentive. When Channel 4 or somebody announce that the following program may contain scenes that will offend. I watch it, regardless biggrin.gif
