^-- like the topic said, can someone please explain to me the usefullness of Karma. The only thing I can see it is used for is give people some of the mods don't like and like a score.

Like, if it was used to show if someone is always messing around, they would have been 12 clicked a long time ago.

The tought of some muppet moderators like Hobbes and Bard (imo) controling my "status" (again, is there a need) if fairly off putting.

Not that I particually care, but don't want people getting the wrong impression of my - karma when its just a case of Mods being fussy, moaning, whinging *******s.

Well, while taking your "muppet moderators" comment with a pinch of salt and a smile smile.gif ... in particular, you needn't worry about me "controlling [your] status" using this Karma feature. I've no intention of it smile.gif

I've used it once or twice out of curiosity and found it to be a relatively pointless exercise.

From my point of view, I think it is useful with regards to the for sale board. ie People will know if someone is trust worthy or not.

This extends to the other boards like techology/net/unix etc where people give out advice. It can be used as a measure of how reliable a person's words are.

Your upset with my +1? Whiner. tongue.gif I thought the comment was quite apt, especially after hearing your "CD-Burner" story.

    its used for

    1. Identifying a muppet from a person who's just having a bad day.

    2. Someone who is respected for their input into the community.

3.A way of softly promoting the kind of poster we would all like to see here.

So does that mean people like me ???

Personally I take Karma seriously but use it rarely because most of the posts I read are normal. But when I see posts that are exceptionally creative/funny/useful/informative then I give karma.

I take karma when I see a poster being exceptionally abusive.

No system is perfect. But the previous system involved banning people for being extreme muppets. Now they get negative karma.

The one thing I'll never adjust karma for is people complaining/praising about me.

Moderators are far from perfect and I'd be in favour of a similar structure in place to hold moderators accountable. Not exactly sure how it'd work though.

Instead of people posting sh*te to up the post count, now they have to think about whaty their posting with regards to Karma. It will (hopefully) bring up the standard on Boards.

i like it as it rewards the people who make an effort to make the boards more enjoyable for the rest of us.
