    Hi,

I've just noticed recently that even when I have nothing stored in my SKY+ planner it is telling me that I only have 90% free disc space remaining.

Is there anyway that I can retrieve the missing 10% of disc space???

    Cheers,
    DEREK.

I expect this is due to one of two things, neither of which can truly be corrected without voiding your warrenty:

1). the hard-drive holds the software which sky uses to operate the box, the operating system.

2). the form of disk structure, partitioning etc. is such that you never gain a complete 100% of the drive as part of it is always consumed by the process. This has been a topic of heated debate in many circles as the manufacturers claim of the disk size is unrealistic as the claimed size can never be acheived, this has even resulted in law suits in the US.

other than that, it could be a software malfunction, meaning it cannot correctly extrapolate the disk size, again I think this may be unalterable.

i have had the same thing happen on my Sky+ a few times, gave me back 100% every time

doing this will delete all recordings from the hard drive

the lost space is from a combination of Failled recordings and Cancelled recordings. The Sky+box loses track of some disk space and can't recover it without a planned rebuild.

The planner rebuild is effectively the same a re-formatting your hard disk (whether is actually does this, I don't know). It wipes the disk clean, but at least you get your lost space back.

The planner rebuild does not delete your recordings or any information from the planner. You can't perform it while recording something though as at the end of the rebuild the box is rebooted.

The planner rebuild is not the same as formatting the disk, it is more like defragmenting the disk.

    Also try this,

Caution this procedure will delete all recording on your Sky+ box.

Remove mains plug from the back of the Sky+ box. (There is now no red light on the front of the box)

Press and HOLD IN the right and left arrow buttons each side of the SELECT button on the front of the Sky+ box.

Reconnect the mains supply to the box while you continue to keep the left and right buttons pressed in for approx 35 seconds.

The circular light on the centre of the front of the box will light up.

Release the buttons and immediately press the SELECT button, the green light on the front of the box will rotate anti-clockwise for 15 seconds.

The Sky+ box will then revert to standby and the red light will come on, in the front of the box.

Leave for 1 minute and then switch on as normal.

This has happened to me twice over the past few months and all I did was unplug it for a few minutes and reconnect it - worked for me :)
