Rite... what would one do if one needed to borrow say about 5,000 and have been turned down by bank, dont want to ask parents and not in credit union long enough for such a substantial sum?? Are there other avenues.. I know in the UK there are loads of places that advertise loans no matter what ur situation/financial status etc... Iv looked on the web and have seen no such institutions in Dublin... I am working and earning good money so I am in a position to make the repayments... Any idea's??
    No smart arse comments please
    Cheers :D

The UK lending institutions you mentioned are called 'predatory lenders' in the States. They identify people with a track record of bad credit, offer them a loan secured against some asset (their house say) and then wait for the loan to default so they can acquire the asset. If you can wait at all, follow chalk's advice otherwise I'd talk to your parents or someone else who can guarantee the loan, It'd still be in your name, and the bank might be more likely to give it to you.

If you're working, and earning good money, why won't the bank give you a loan?

I wouldn't be so quick to get into debt if I were you - what the hell do you need 5K for that you don't want to ask your parents?

Provident is the name of a money lender in dublin, dont know the number tho sorry! they come collect your repayment from your house every week, id be wary though mite be better to get someone to go guarantor (sp?) on a loan for you.

Its actually for a new car... The bank turned me down basicaly because I dont leave enough money in my account each week.. as in come Friday I withdraw a good lump of my wages for rent etc... Which I thought was a bit ridiculous because how am I supposed to live if I dont withdraw money from my account.. I do have some financial obligations like credit union payments and car insurance which I always pay so its not like I have bad credit or I just dont pay my bills... I also think It may because I made the mistake of telling them that the loan was not all for the car, some was for insurance, tax etc... And I dont want to go hire purchase on the car, I want to buy outright...

why not stick some more money in your credit union account and then ask for a top up loan on that?

If it's for a car have you not looked into the asset finance that a lot of garages offer? I know you said you're looking to buy it outright but it is worthwhile to explore other options. I have no great knowledge of them but it would definately be an avenue to look at. I know there's Ford motor finance and i've seen ads for others aswell.

yeah lots of garages will do finance deals alright, why not save some of the money and ask your folks for a loan of the rest?

Money lenders that aren't registered, aren't for a reason. Some can be dodgy, and before you get money off one, check them out, and make sure they have no dodgy dealings.

i know a fella who went to "providence" or what ever they're called, money lenders with a fake id and met them in a house that his mates had just moved out of, and got 3 grand off em.... and then split and never paid up, he did it twice to the same representative and the second time she started going on about this fella who screwed them over before! little did she know it was him :D i just thought it was funny out, i dont feel sorry for them money lenders 1 bit, they charge something like 25% interest ****in rip off merchants i say, making money off people in desparate situations...

on that note i wouldnt have the balls to do it, i think ill just stick to my credit union they kick ass much nicer than banks

Yes, but banks don't like giving you a 5 year loan to cover an annual expense.

As many people have said, go for a HP deal through a garage, if you are buying from one. The garage wants to make a sale, so will do their best to get you approved. The interest rates are normally quite good as they are fixed.

And those companies that advertise on English TV are nothing but glorified Loan Sharks, but they are given an air of respectability because they have the likes Carol Vorderman telly-whoring themselves on the adverts.
