I'm looking for travel insurance for 2 adults and 1 child. I'm looking for good level of cover as opposed to cheap cover. I've trawled through past posts on boards but most threads are about cheap travel insurance. Ebookers gold looks by far the best but you have to book your holiday with them to take their cover. Thanks in advance.

Why not ask ebookers who provides their insurance, then go to them directly?

I had a BAD experience with the insurance company ebookers use.

I wont go into details but I would definitely not recommend them!!

Getcover.com made me jump through hoops to get a claim settled for 450 euro having paid over 600 euro for two people on extended trip. They just gave silly reasons for not paying and only in the end when I threatened district court proceedings did I get my cheque.

So I guess stay away from them.

They hand over the claims handling to a different company based in Galway who don't even have proper headed paper, they just photocopy a logo and print on the page, they're a joke really.

I have used USIT's travel insurance before which is an axa spin-off, it was quite pricey but when I had some travellers cheques stolen they were excellent on providing advice, when the cheques were recovered they also provided excellent advice and verified with the issuers that I was on the level.

The best scam I ever saw was a policy booked through a US company on baggage insurance, when the bags went missing and a claim was made the policy holder was informed that it was the bags and not the contents that were insured with an exclusion on the first $100 on the value of the luggage which of course needed to be receipted and had a 33% annual depreciation rate. Luckily the bags turned up four days late and the entire sitaution could be put down to negligence on the part of Lufthansa, who I wouldn't recommend.
