A mate has an olympus digital camera, ordered an olympus 512MB xD card, got a fuji 512 xD delivered. The fuji was slightly more expensive. Does anyone know if there is a difference worth talking about? (ie would/should an olympus card work better than a fuji card in an olympus camera?)

a brief googling doen't turn up anything too useful.

anyone got any opinions/thoughts on the topic?

I believe the difference is that only the Olympus card can be used for panoramas in an Olympus camera.

As far as I know it's exactly the same card, just a different print on the front.
Now, I could be wrong, but if I am, even then you'll notice no difference between the two cards anyway.

    Cheers,

must check about the panoramic function thingy, anyone know more about this bit? (I assume if the camera doesn't have it then it doesn't matter)

Olympus did the same thing with SM cards on earlier cameras. It had something to with the low level formatting of the card, and there were a few fixes out there for it that involved patching a low level formatting program with some string or the other. Very messy, and I don't know whether the same thing is possible with xD cards, or even necessary.

That having been said I just ordered a SanDisk 512MB xD card that came in a SanDisk blister pack with SanDisk docs and all, but the card itself says Olympus on it and the word SanDisk isn't anywhere to be seen on it!? The panorama function in the camera appears to work just fine with it.
