Does that have something to with injuring your kids to get attention for yourself?

Munchausen's is to damage yourself or invent symptoms of imaginary diseases to get attention on yourself.
Munchausen's by proxy is when you do it to someone else, usually someone in your own care, so that you get all teh kudos for looking after them.

You're right, it's often done on kids, and to old people. Anyone vulnerable and who can only rely on the person who is supposed to be looking after them.
But that carry on of men feeding women till they get to a squillion stone and are totally dependent on teh men, that's another branch of it.

It's fascnating and well documented, what sort of twisted things people can convince themself is proper and caring behaviour.

I've become totally fascinated (sp) by Jack the Ripper lately. I know its off topic but to look inside this mans mind is incredible and intriguing to see how his mind worked, he was such a well educated and sophisticated man but he thouht he was doing the world good by disposing of these prostitutes....

Are you talking about Jack the Ripper, from the late 19th century or Peter Sutcliffe, the Yorkshire Ripper, who was convicted in the early nineteen eighties?
No one knows who Jack the Ripper was, so if you do mean him, what book is it you are reading?

Yeah the original Jack the Ripper, they did find out, he was, hold on I've to get me boooks. Walter Sickert. I've two books Jack the Ripper : Letters From Hell by Stewart P. Evans and Keith Skinner and Potrait of a Killer : Jack the Ripper-Case Closed by Patricia Cornwall.
The first one is about all the letters he wrote and supposedly wrote and theres copies of the originals and autopsy pics and interview with men that worked on the case. Its dedicated to Johnny Depp, the movie and stuff... I haven't read the other one yet but its more about the actual murders.

no way its so interesting, I've a fascination with psychology, really finding out how peopls minds work, what provokes them into such actions.

I know there are a number of books about who it was thought to have been, one theory that comes in and out of vogue was that Jack was The Prince of Wales. If you start looking into Jack the Ripper theory you'll see that there are many, many people who have dedicated their entire lives to trying to find out who he was. Some people think it was Walter Snickert and some don't. He isn't accepted by many of the academics in the field and when Patricia Cornwell brought that book out there were academics supporting her adn academics saying she was a fiction writer who had taken her fiction into this case.

The fact of the matter is, no one was convicted and it's now one hundred and twenty years or so since Jack the Ripper was around, so there can only ever be theories now and no one can ever really know.

I know theres loads of theories and stuff and theres a bit of focus on the prince in Letters Fom Hell and I dunno theres some wierd stuff but I dont think it was him... I'll give an accurate accusation when I've researched it further! The investigation in this book into Walter seems fairly concrete so neh...

Its incredibly (sp?) interesting all the same!
