Hey fellas, as you may or may not have seen im around here a bit and i like the odd bet, my dad is big into horses and its rubbed off on me a bit, however my knowledge isnt anything like any of you guys, however i try pass on any decent tips i get.

Anyway my bets consist of straight win/each way or bet to place on betfair (where i usually make a few quid :))

I see people mentioning lucky 15s a lot, how do they work, are there any other accumulator style bets people use a lot?

    thanks

TO be honest, I'm not a big fan of bets like these cause as soon as one horse goes down your return is drastically reduced. The bet itself involves four selections with one four-timer, four trebles, six doubles and four singles. To get a decent return you need either 4 up or some big priced winners. The bookies generally love these types of bet (until the lucky punter gets one up). If you are going to do one though make sure you shop around. Some bookies do not guarantee prices on multiple bets so stay away from them (this just means that if you take 2-1 and he drifts to 3 you don't get the better), the best deal you can get on a lucky 15 is guaranteed prices and if you only get one winner they treble the odds (and also a bonus if ya get 4 up)

    Hi Cyrus

Basically a Lucky 15 is a bet where you pick four horses and hope the four of them win. There is 15 bets in total (four singles, six doubles, four trebles and one four timer). It's a fairly good bet if 3/4 of them win. Most bookies double the odds if only one wins. Bear in mins that you can also do an e.w. Lucky 15 which is 30 bets.

You can also have A Yankee which is the same as a Lucky 15 without the single bets. Hence there is 11 bets on a Yankee.

A Patent is where you pick three horses and consists of seven bets. Three singles, three doubles and one treble.

There are more but the above are the most popular.

A lucky 15 consists of 15 bets as the name suggests, you select four horses. It consists of the following bets:

    4 singles
    6 doubles
    4 trebles
    1 Accumulutor.

A €1 costs €15. I personally prefer to stick with singles as you really need to have a least 2 winners at half decent prices to make any money.

Even if you have 2 winners both at 3/1 you would only get €22 back, a profit of €7. If you manage to get all 4 up it's happy days.

I remember listening to an interview with a representitive of Paddy Power saying how much bookies love multiple bets like lucky 15's and yankees. They make a major profit out of them.

cheers fade, i realise they can be messy bets and returns are often small if any, i spose tho an each way lucky 15 on 4 horses that you fancy but cant justify putting big money on might be a good one

Punter scoops £800,000 for £30 bet

    by Lee Mottershead

A LIVERPOOL betting-shop punter has scooped the biggest-ever payout on a horseracing wager in Britain or Ireland after collecting almost £800,000 for a stake of just £30.

Ian Carswell, who just days earlier had been made redundant from his job asan internet trader with bookmaker Stanleybet, was on Wednesday handed a cheque from Ladbrokes for £796,706.52, his reward for an extraordinary winning spree, whose combined odds totalled 194,000-1.

As a result of Carswell's winning bet, Ladbrokeshave doubled their maximum return on UK and Irish racing bets from £500,000 to £1 million.

Carswell, 37, combined his six selections in a series of two bets, a Lucky 63 and an each-way accumulator, writing out the winning slips in Ladbrokes' Allerton Road shop in Liverpool.

In the space of less than two hours, he had correctly forecast the winners of three races apiece at Hamilton and Brighton, with two of his successful horses winning at 12-1 and Redwood Star, the horse who secured his financial future, at 14-1.

"I suppose it is quite funny really," said Carswell, fully aware of the irony involved in securing a monster payout from one major bookmaker only days after losing his job with another.

"I was very down when I putthe bet on, I didn't know what to do next. I had worked at Stanleys for two and a bit years so wasn't expecting much redundancy money. This couldn't have happened at a better time."

Outlining the thinking behind his selections, Carswell explained: "I've been doing the same bet for years and couldn't believe it as I was watching it on television.

"I love horseracing but I don't follow any particular tipsters. I looked at the form of the horses myself and made a judgement from there. I do keep a close eye on the jockeys on board though, they are so important."

Recalling the momentous day, Carswell, who at Windsor on Monday won another £500 and at a charity auction bought a holiday in La Manga for 12 people and a trip to visit trainer Francois Doumen's Chantilly yard, added: "When the first winner went in, I spoke to my mate on the phone and said, 'lets see how it goes, you've got to dream haven't you'. When I won the third race, I rang my mate and said, ‘The dream is still alive’.

"By the sixth race I was speechless and watched it on At The Races. I had taken the early price on Redwood Star in the 5.00 at Brighton at 14-1 in the shop and it had been backed into 13-2. I knew I was in with a shout.

"That final race wassomething else. My horse looked like it was going to be caught on the line but it just held on. I knew then that I'd won a lot of money and have hardly slept or eaten since."

Commenting on Carswell's good fortune, Ladbrokes spokesman Warren Lush said: "His is one of the most remarkable wins we've seen in our history.

"We were planning on announcing that our maximum payout limit was going to double to £1 million this week and felt it was unfair to restrict Ian to a £500,000 payout given the skill he showed in picking the six winners."

Ladbrokes have announced another change to their rules and will now pay out on both the official result and first past the post in the case of amended results.

Does anyone know if you can do a lucky 15 consisting of accumulators ? Can I do four trebles as a lucky 15?
Im thinking more for footie betting than horses.

Unless I have very solid info or it's a horse I have been following I don't do single bets. I do multiples mainly patents/trixies and am very happy with my returns. The chances of getting a tenfold return on a single bet are slim, the chances of a tenfold return on a multiple bet are not at all uncommon.
