    ...and good riddance!

Scrolling through channels on Sunday the box jammed at TVX, I unplugged and rebooted a few hours later and got the dreaded TUNE display with "updating service yadda yadda yadda" message. Waited and waited, nothing. Unplugged again left overnight and still nothing doing the next day.

I phoned NTL this morning and as soon as I mentioned the box model she said "ah that'll have to be replaced". So I'm without digital until next Tuesday (assuming they turn up).

Part of me is wondering if they have installed a bug so that once its triggered the 4001 model simply won't work again forcing users to get in touch at which point they replace the box.

    Mike.

Methinks when it does the "TUNE" thing non-stop, thats an indication of tuner failure... The new purple boxes they seem to be handing out are pretty sleek looking.

I just got a call from NTL service dept and they will be round tomorrow afternoon! I wonder is someone there reading boards?!

I want a purple box! How do I get one over my silver one and what does it do other than purple?

Its got optical output (although i don't think ntl broadcast Dolby Digital) and its only slightly bigger than a VHS tape. They don't have a modem of any kind in them, and their power consumption is only something like 7w, or 5w in standby! Dunno if its any faster though channel changing wise. There's a few people on the forum have got one, but they are people who had new ntl installs - maybe they could explain better...

Digital out would be nice although I don't think it is in DD yet. The lack of modem is dissapointing. I would like to have my STB and modem in one box to save space (I have alot of stuff in one area).

Ah well I'm sure by 2020 when ntl launch interactive, they'll have smaller modems :D. Besides, the new box is truly a "set top box" because I've seen these things and they'll fit grand on top of most 14" portable TVs. They're incredibly small, very impressive.

Mike, that's the new thing. They ring/txt you the day before to remind you that you're due a call the next day. The old 4000's are getting a bit unstable these days. Don't think they took the updates to well.
Have fun with the new stb. Its pot luck which one the tech arrives with though. You could end up with a di300.

I just got back and they've installed a dinky box with no display. Hav'nt checked the model. Took about 2 mins to set the colour properly and familiarise myself with the naviagtion etc.

    The remote works properly too!

So Mike you're bang up to date stb wise. Not a bad little box(so far)
BTW did the tech remove the old splitter and extra wiring which aren't needed anymore??

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 88,968 ✭✭✭✭mike65

Its a KN221DC (I think), God knows about the splitter (me not very techy in this respect!), all I can see is a new white lead from the wall box to the the digibox, a lead to the video deck and two scart leads to video and tv.

The one thing I can't find in epg is the page that shows the current software status.
