Egasp! Put an order in for one of these yesterday! Would Apple be so heartless as to release an update sooooo soon?

Erm, heartless? How does that work?

Heartless in the sense that I just ordered one...and they're gonna upgrade the standard model after I ordered. Not so bad for anyone who's thinkin about getting one. :(

Well, what you ordered hasn't changed, you know...

no it hasn't - and I'm still counting the days for mine to arrive. Only another 10-15 days...

Jesus, how come it's taking so long for it to arrive?

I'm going to order one in the next month or so.
I'm still toying with the wireless idea.

10 days for the cheque to clear and then it goes into production, add +/- five to six days as far as i know.

Ah, I see. Damn internation cheque transfers.
I'll be worth it when it comes.
Taking it out of the box will be like opening presents at Christmas- something you want to video tape or something like that... :-)

my 21st is next week so I thought I'd treat myself - g/f is buyin a digital camera and I talked my brother into getting me the Relysis 17" F/S Monitor - spent 1500 on goodies on the apple site to top it off! :o be careful - everything is tempting on the online store!

They have to do something to prevent the Osborne effect.

 this may seem stupid, but... what is the Osborne effect?

    Everything except the feckin' prices.

Now that I think about it. Ok, Apple are expensive, but surely the production costs aren't that much?!

Why don't they reduce the prices to shift more units? Thus, making the money in quantity or sales rather than amount per unit?
Are they just trying to keep themselves elitist?

And, more importantly, more people would be exposed to Macs...

this is the main catylist for the shift from CPU's made by IBM. They are too expensive and production is slow.

I dont see why they should drop their prices TBH. Most of their gross margin was from sales of the Ipod, even if it was an oversexed POS. This is/was making up for the lower margin on the hardware. Espcially the mini as the margin on it (for apple ) is relativly poor.

Price is not the main problem with people switching to mac, its the change itself, or at least the percived change.

Re: The Osborne Effect... wow. :o Lets hope that it doesn't come to that, and thanks for the definition SS, learnt something new.

As for the switch from Mac to PC - being brutaly honest the cost of the switch was really not an issue, in fact, in selling my current PC and buying the all new wireless keyboard, mouse, mac mini and a new monitor I am making a porfit. (Also got Office 04, an iSight, 1gb USB Memory and Sims2 - still less than what I'm getting back for my older PC)

As for the OS switch - I'm terrified, and excited about the complete change. :D Can't wait to try it out...
