Firstly, if I've posted this in the wrong area apologies....

can anyone recommend an external hard drive (200/250gb) for a laptop. I have an 80gb laptop which is running out of space as I have all my music stored on it. I appreciate there are stickys in relation to places to shop, but could do with some recommendations.....

    thanks,

only recommendation i have is buy separately.
an ext hard drive costs twice as much as an internal,
but an internal plus a case costs only a few euro more than an int. on its own.

an ext. drive is just an int. drive in a case ;)

either that or wait for lidl to sell tham agaon,
they have the best prices for ext drives when theyre available.

personally ive picked up 2 180gB drives on here for 70-75eu each and a case for 30eu.

thanks chalk. my technical knowledge of pc's is non existent. what's involved in putting the drive into the case - i assume there's more than just putting in and bobs your uncle!!

2 sockets to connect [power and data], simple, and then screwng the case shut ;)

easy as pie and should save you a few euros.

youll also have the benifit of being able to choose the hard drive you want,
ie brand / cache size / read speed,
and a nice looking case - thers hundreds of styles to choose from.

theres been a few threads on the computers forum recently about the best hard drives to buy,
so have a look around there and you should get some good info on what brand etc to buy.
