I've just done 5th Year Japanese (even though i was in 4th year).
Just thought yous might like to know!
ATM i know 40-50 kanji, more than what was taught in class. i'm really interested in the language, and i'm always trying to improve.

How did yous learn your 日本語? i have classes from 10-12 on saturday mornings during the school year. i dont use the web as reference as much as i should tho...

    Le meas,
    Conor

Do you go to the Rathmines class?

Or did I just never notice you in the St Michaels class?

Or are you in some other class?

    What is Le meas? French?

I also just finished the 5th year course in TY. Pretty easy really. I'm hopin' for a A1 in leaving cert anyway.

As for my nihon-go...I bought a dictionary of course. That and the internet are all you need. I know a couple of hundred kanji so I feel I'm doing pretty well..

Anyways, good that you've taken an interest in the language. Good luck with your studies...

    Duh, me speak Japanese...? ;)

Yes, I seem to be in pretty much the exact same boat as both of ye, as much as I hate to admit that thou, kawaii, my bitter rival, art almost mine equal. (You scum ;) .)

He couldn't be in St. Michael's as we and liquorice were the only TYs in that, remember? And all three of us outdid most of those fifth years? Hee, hee!

Is it a difficult language to learn? Japanese is something that's fascinated me - especially when I saw the Japanese LC paper!

Ya, we know liquorice. Myself, her and Elvenscout742 (who goes to my school) were the three who went up for the scholarship. All trannies. I think the reason there were three of us was that the program was meant for 5th years. Only one 5th year in our class scored higher than us in a test we did to choose who would go. And that's it really. Come to think of it, that didn't make any sense...

    Anyways...

    どうぞよろしく

Say hi to liquorice when your back in school.

    ...

    ...

    Bye

hi guys, just wondering do ye have a (commercialy available)textbook (for LC)and if so what is it?
really interested in taking this up as a project, have already done an introductory course in it.
any help in relation to textbook would be greatly appreciated. :)

    Japanese for Young People.

i find it would be more suited to a younger audience, but it covers everything any beginners' course does. The Teach Yourself Beginners Japanese has all the same stuff in it.

Only buy it if you're going ot attend the classes, because its mad expensive (€35), and there are more suitable books out there for home study.

How much extra work did all of you do over the summer? I was pretty diligent in June...stopped working at the start of July...and only really started again the week before school recommenced. I've just taken a look at more of the level 4 kanji, some verbs and some adjectives, and I really hope that I'm not the person who has done the least work (which is quite likely).

Don't worry. It certainly sounds like you did more work than me ;) .

    And me...

Did anyone do that summer homework?
