Going in August and have read in numerous threads that a car is absolutely necessary... Have trawled the net and the cheapest I could find is 250 for the 12 days we'll be there....

Anyone got any suggestions? I'm 24 so being under the 25 mark might be a killer...

    Cheers

I will be 24 when I'm going to the west coast in November. I've only just started to do some research into getting a car, but I've found that some car rental companies will rent to >25, but you have to pay a surcharge of $10-25 dollars a day! I'm not 100% sure but I also think there are different rules for renting in different states, so if you are driving from state to state like we will be, you could run into trouble.

Anyway I'd also appreciate any advice people can give ;)

I'm going to Orlando this month and booked car hire through here..

    http://www.orlandovillas.com/car_hire.aspx

The quotes are inclusive of insurance, taxes etc. and they seem to cater for under 25's. (At a cost of $20~25 dollars/day). It seems a bit more expensive than you found, but I don't know if your price was all inclusive. Also prices are in sterling.

If you don't mind, could you post a link to where you got your quote - for future reference.
    Thanks.

I used these last time we went to Orlando. They were excellent (BTW that website http://www.orlandovillas.com is also superb - would highly recommend it for find out what to do in Orlando). The all inclusive insurance is well worth getting. A lot of car hire's in Orlando rip you off on this (cheap car insurance that doesn't include your car insurance).

Also a tip to all those visiting Orlando - check if there are any shuttle launches in Cape Canaveral. We saw once last year. Twas excellent.

I`m off to Orlando in September and havent hired a car.
If you are planning on staying in and around the Orlando area for your holiday then it is easy enough to do without a car.

I was in Orlando 2 years ago, and to cut down on costs I only hired the car for 1 week of my 2 week stay. If you are staying in International Drive, the I-Ride trolly bus service is very good. You can visit Sea World, Wet n' Wild and the 2 Univeral theme Parks using the trolly bus. If you want to visit Disney, Busch Gardens, the Florida Mall or any of the beaches in Florida it is better to have a car. There are organised bus tours to all these but as you know yourself the car gives you the option of coming and going as you please.

Apart from the I-Ride trolly bus, public transport in Orlando is not very good.

If you you can, I would advise getting a car.

actually, that's not a bad price for a car rental!!! hell, when I was in Ireland last year, I paid $210.00 for a 6 day rental!!! and I'm 28!!! but if you stay in the park(within disney), you really won't need a car... the trolley/bus system is great... if you wanted to get out of the park for awhile, a cab ride isn't that bad to get downtown... good luck...
