Off Licence Beers

Was wandering thru Tesco yesterday and came across 8 cans (500ml) of Miller GD for €13.49. Not bad. They are selling them individually for €1.75 per can.
    So a crate of Miller from Tesco = 1.75 * 24 = €42 or you could buy 3 8 packs @ 13.49 each = €40.47.

Not much in it but makes me wonder where is the cheapest place to pick up a crate of beers for the summer evenings? Am specifically interested in Miller but all beers count!

miller 330mlx24 was (is?) €22 in supermarkets. That is just under 16 cans, so about €1.40 per can, if you want to compare, I would value bottles more than cans anyway.
dunnes had 24x330ml proper dutch 5% heineken for €22 too

o'briens are doing 48x330ml grolsch for €48 and you get a free swing top grolsch magnum 1.5l and 2 glasses

dunnes have warsteiner 24x330 for 24

miller in a can is scaldy anyway, grolsch is a nice beer though!

But only if it's the genuine article, and not some "Brewed under licence" rubbish.

i lived in England last year, and the beer in supermarkets seems about 50% more expensive here.

In most places, a 24 pack of Cans (Grolsch, Stella, Kronenbourg 500ml) could be had for £15, with a 15 pack of Guinness cans for about £13.

True - but a lot of it is under strength 3.3% muck. Apparently John Bull can't hold his beer :D

their under strength is 4.3% in general, but these are the "premium" 5.3% brands.

We actually worked of a alcohol/price ratio when choosing what to buy.

looks like Dunnes are doing some good deals on booze.
Anyone know what deals (if any?) the others are offering - Super Valu?
Do Aldi or Lidl do any deals on any "known" brands?

Sainsbury's had 24 X 330ml Carlsburg export for £10STG last Saturday in Newry. All their beer seemed to be around the £12-15 bracked for a case. Not bad at all.

Watch out for Tesco "anti-specials". I've seen a few of these in the past where the "special" price for a 12 or 24 pack actually works out more expensive than buying individual cans or bottles in the same shop. Lidl have a very nice German pilsner beer, about EUR 7 for 6 x 500 ml bottles. It's unbranded, but IMO much better than anything brewed under licence here or in the UK.

    Bergadler
    lovely stuff.
    500ml. 4.9%
brewed to german 'reinheitsgebot' brewing laws.
has a lidl label on the back.

we've been addicted the last couple of weeks.
    great BBQ accessory.
big stash of empties out the back if anyone is doing a bottle run

The only known bracds that I rememer seeing there are Stella Artois (around E15 for 24 small bottles(little rounder stumpy ones, cant think of official size) in lidl).

I think i saw Beamish in one of them once too.

Personally, for cheap cans, I buy GALAHAD from Aldi. Its not bad at all as cheap stuff goes and youll get 24 cans for E20 - E24 depending on offers etc. cant remember the % offhand.

I'm thinking of doing a booze run up the north for a bbq I'm having. Is Sainsburys easy enough to find in Newry? Are there any other decent stores near it?

    Cheers.

Here's a map . Sainsburys is in the Quay's shopping center on the right and the Buttercrane center is on the left. You can't miss it just follow the cars in front. Most are either going to the Quay's or the Butercrane.

U can do a quality homebrew (i mean top quality) for about £19, to make 46 500ml bottles. of at least 5% :D

Reputations for piss are unfounded, or produced by people with no skill/cheap ingredients.

I agree with Shaun. Homebrew is cheap, damn tasty and fun.
The initial outlay is around 100 euro or so for the bits n pieces but then it comes in cheap for the drink. I've just bottled batch 3, a Weiss beer. Have a stout, a bock, a real ale and a lager lined up to do in the near future.
seriously - have a look at
    www.grogsmugglers.com
    www.grapengraindublin.com
    http://www.thehomebrewcentre.com/
or in waterford there's a brew shop on the quays, called favourite homebrew.(111 the quay, waterford).
Only catch is it takes about 4-5 weeks from first brew to drinking it, but if you brew a couple of batches up front you then have an almost limitless supply. And you get to boast to your friends "I made this".
All my batchs have gone down extremly well. can't wait to see how the weiss beer comes out.
Also bought a homebrew setup for a mates wedding. he loved it, and will start it up when he gets back from his honeymoon.

Try "the drink link" just as you go under the railway bridge into newry and look out for the billboard for curleys on the way in showing the specials on in there.Curleys is over near argos, far side off the buttercrane.

Speaking of Beer dose anyone know of any off-licences that sell Labatt Blue, Molson Canadian or Corona in Kildare or Dublin?

I was in Canada earlier in the month and got hooked on the beer over there.

Pretty much everywhere has Corona. Dublin and Kildare are big places - narrow it down a bit? - I presume you're not going to drive all over 2 counties for beer.....
In celbridge there's a new offie on the main street that has Corona, and possibly some of the others. Tesco also stock it IIRC.

Just back from Holland whislt there I purchased much ale from various supermarkets.

24 bottles of heineken sets you back about €8:35 and the same of 24 bottles of Grolsch.

Ok preferably around Naas, Newbridge in Kildare and I'll be in the City Center
fairly often when I return to college!

yeah beer is cheap there. and the heineken there is much nicer than here as well.
and they let you take the crate home for 1.95 deposit! and 10 c per bottle,
when I moved home from holland I brought 4 crates of beer home with me - long since gone sadly.
Sometimes the supermarkets even do a 3 cases for the price of 2 deal. should've seen me wheel them home on my bike!
