Great Dating Ideas - Cake!

According to the Sunday Times, taking a woman out for cake on a first date is a brilliant idea. While avoiding the whole expense of dinner and drinks you also manage to have a perfect amount of time to figure out whether you like the person. The added bonus of course is that cake is fabulous and I think most women would be delighted and flattered at the thoughtfulness.

There is a danger however, as one friend pointed out, that if the lady in question was sensetive about her weight she might take offence.

Any other good ideas?? Trying to get all my single male friends off the shelf!!! :D

I'm meeting my girlfriend for lunch, I think now after reading this we'll do the whole cake thing!

Sounds like a good idea though, save a fortune in comparison to an expensive dinner ;)

Well if your girlfriend is expecting dinner, she might be a bit miffed with just cake. Course you could do cake after. Ice cream date might me another good one.

Inevitably all my male friends end up taking the new girl to the pub, need more ideas for good original dates though. Any suggestions?

A comedy club is meant to be great, as you can chat to away but if the conversation starts to go, you can just listen to the comedian without any awkard silence.

how about asking where she'd like to go???

Might I recommend the Queen of Tarts on Dame street for a cake date? It's very good.

How about making your own cake and taking the date to a park to consume it? Devising new top secret cake recipes is a hobby of mine.

Ah thats really nice, but sounds likea lot of effort for a first date. Suppose a swiss roll from the centra is out of the question. But will have to check out queen of tarts.

Comedy club is always a brilliant one!
    :)

You just wait for the threads about how someone doesn't like cake, but wants to ask a girl out, and thus has no idea what to do.

If someone brought me out on a first date and presented me with a big cake I'd be a bit worried tbh.
Tiz a bit of an odd thing to do imo.

However, if it was "going for a cup of coffee" and cake was a part of that it wouldn't seem to weird I suppose ;)

Mmmm I really like the cake idea.

I know guy who was tying to woo a friend of mine after meeting her on a night out ,so he sent her on an obstacle course.Seriously Im not making this up!

First he text her and told her to go to a corner shop called Brodericks and tell them her name and that he sent her....They gave her a banana and told her to go to another shop called roxy records....

She went and handed them the banana.....they gave her a little iced cake
and a card from him telling her to go to another shop in town...

She went there and told them her name and that he sent her.. they gave her a teddy and told her to go to another shop....

She went to this shop and did the same thing....they gave her a rose and a voucher for lunch at four o clock the next saturday with him at a cafe in town!

I thought that was the sweetest thing Id ever heard

    I like the cake idea a lot;
Its just something different to do. The idea of "goin for a drink" is quite tedious....too expected. Its nice to do something a bit different, to show you have put a bit of thought into the person. It also means that you are brave/interested enough to sit with them for a chat, in a place that doesnt host an attention diverter.

Its also a nice light hearted gesture...and if cakey goes down well you can always go for a drink afterwards ;)

Nah she managed it in a one lunch time if I remember rightly, I mean he didnt choose shops a mile away from each other :p . I dont think she was supposed to find him at the end, it was more about the presents and stuff.
