What would you do

$25 STT and it's down to 5 players

    Blinds are 100-200

    SB : 2,700
    BB: 3,200
    UTG: 7,200
    UTG+1: 1,600
    Button: 3,300

UTG makes it 1,000 to go, he's been playing fairly tight. The only 2 times he's raised preflop previously he's shown KK and AKs. The last hand he was involved in he slowplayed the nut flush from the flop and enticed the 6th player into going all-in on two pair at the river.

You're in the SB and it's folded to you, you have 99 what would you do?

This is a hand that I have a lot of trouble playing when it's raised in front of me, I like 99 and 88 but I prefer to get a cheap flop or be the aggressor short-handed with them. Normally in this position I would fold and wait for a better chance. You've enough chips to wait for a better opportunity to get your chips in the middle.

I don't think you can flat call here, as you're pretty much committed to the pot, unless your plan is to push regardless of flop. Is there a case for pushing preflop in this position? thoughts...

I was actually UTG here and held AQs. SB pushed and I called, I put him on a medium PP or AJ, AT. As it turned out I hit an A on the river but he hit his 9 on the turn. I thought it was a terrible play by him at the time, but I'm curious to get other opinions, because I'm starting to waver in my initial belief

easy fold for me ... you have all the information you need to set off as many alarm bells you need, if you want to heed them.

99 is a dangerous hand to call an UTG raise with.

I dont think it was terrible play from 99. He's 4th chip leader so its moving time for him. He's got to get it on soon and he fancied a race and im sure he was happy enough when you called and the cards were turned over. All what 99 can hope for when his all in is called is that utg hasnt a higher pair. Its one of those where imo its neither right or wrong to fold utg's initial raise or go all in. Now i would have been more wary if it was 2nd or 3rd chip leader that was utg and raised 1000. The are more likely to have something more solid as utg with 7,200 can afford to hit and miss but they cant miss once. In the past as 99 i have folded in a similar scenario and i have called(i know i know) and i have gone all in.

I agree with the lads, with this guy it's an easy fold.

    he fancied a race

This is correct, but for me, it doesn't make it right.

Depends on styles, IMO, he's sitting fine in the pack, one winning hand and he's ITM position, 2nd and 3rd are close by.

For me it was a rash decision, and a decision to gamble and take a race (at best).

Considering previous information, I would have folded without a thought.

5 people left and you have the 2nd shortest stack. You dont have a chip position to protect, you have an urgent need to get some chips. On that note it costing you 1/10 of your stack each round. I would fold this if I thought that utg was playing paticularly tight. The fact that he is the chip leader and probably has quite a broad range would make me push here. If I had 4k chips a fold is much more viable.

Id probably fold but there is reason to take a chance if you think your not up against another PP. I may have called. Either way I would be willing to go up against anything other than a higher PP. make or break time at that stage

If I had the nines I'd push.
