    Hi again,
I've looked up guides on the net and know exactly what to get regarding parts but cant find anywhere in Ireland to purchase these e.g. N type connector to connect to the Pringles Tube, the pigtail lead, the metal tube, etc.
What I really am looking for is a place in Ireland to buy these parts.

    Thanks again

    Paul

    what do you need?
a pringles can and half an rf screw-in jack?
the links provided arent very clear.

maybe if you posted what parts you need someone can help you find them.

Post a list of what your looking for, you cannt be expecting people to trail off around the net researching the parts for you ;) . Pigtails can be got online and from some irish suppliers. N-Types can be got from anyone doing radio gear.

Have you considered just buying an antenna. The pringles can ones arn't great, more of a novilty then a usefull tool.

I got all I needed in maplin*

    I made 2 pringles cantennaes.
However, there is nowhere in dublin that sells cable that will carry signal at 2.4ghz. Nor will you find a handy connector in the shops. What you will need is a "pigtail" cable to connect your radio to the can.

Also, I find that a HUGE metal coffee tin (office-size) gets much better signal than pringles can.

try cq communications on ormond quay? Tho I see you got Maplins anyhow/
From memory you need RG213 cable.
However I used RG58 and an F socket with my Pin antenna protruding from it.
None of this is high quality and lossy but its hardly expensive.

By the way, how many CM is the wire or pin for the antenna. Im still getting mine to resonate with diff lengths in hope of better signal.

    Have fun..

cq comms sold me cable that they swore would work on the 2.4ghz range, but it didn't really. It was rg58, not rg213 you see.

like he said, have fun. Its a learning experience.

    Guys,
thanks for all your info and help. Here's a parts list I got from the following site
    http://www.oreillynet.com/cs/weblog/view/wlg/448 ;

    1) two nylon lock nuts
    2) five 1" washers, 1/8" ID
    3) 6" aluminum tubing, 1/4" ID for the core of the Pringles tude
    4) a female N type connector to fix to the Pringles tube

    5) pigtail Cable to attach from Laptop to the female N type connector afixed to the Pringles tube.

Are maplin based in Ireland or the UK ?

Any further help as to where these parts can be got is much appreciated.

    Slán

Try Radionics ( http://www.radionics.ie ) or Farnell (http://ie.farnell.com ). They are more trade than public but you can order online. They also supply the N connectors and sockets. I'm not so sure about whether they do the Wifi connectors though. But there are a few Irish suppliers for those as well.
Also, I find that a HUGE metal coffee tin (office-size) gets much better signal than pringles can.
It is a far more efficient antenna as well since it resembles a section of circular waveguide. The Pringles antenna is a great demo antenna and looks impressive but Rew's suggestion about buying an antenna would probably be a better move.

    Cheers again,
can you suggest an Antenna and from where to buy it? I'd like to attach it to my WRT54G and pick up the widest range of wireless networks out there :o

    Many thanks

I'm thinking of building one as well. Is this the pigtail cable you're looking for?
    http://www.maplin.co.uk/Module.aspx?ModuleNo=20661&doy=30m6D

I'm pretty sure thats the one. They do the N-type connectors too.

I'm pretty sure thats the one. They do the N-type connectors too.

Pigtails are terminated at both ends, they bridge between the radio/AP's small connector and the large N-Types on the anteanns or the cable coming from antennas.

    For example: http://www.mikrotik.com/img/ucl_pigtail.jpg
