People make fun of them all the time but you still secretly like them. Tight nylon pants, lots of make up and hair spray, high voices and crap solos. You've got to love it.

For me the best is probably Poison.

Mötley Crüe gets my vote. Checked out a few Twisted Sister albums recently and they're not bad.

The Crüe are a close second for me. Hmm Twisted Sister... never like the singer's voice that much.

Dee Snider's an awesome singer! He's a really sound guy too

I'd say Twisted Sister or WASP. Gotta love WASP

If you consider them a hair metal band then Dokken.

    Blue Murder.

Dokken had its moments but I always thought Lynch Mob was a lot better.

Definitely motley crue, simply because they have some excellent songs.

And if you could consider them hair metal for any length of time, van halen is a close second.

How could you single out any band when you have the likes of

Dokken, Crue, Bon Jovi, Van Halen, Warrant, Poison, Stryper, Skid Row, WASP, Cinderella, Ratt, Europe, Foreigner, Def Lepard, Tesla, Slaughter, Krokus and so many more

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 11,848 ✭✭✭✭Doctor J

Cos they only know one or two Ph3n0m ;)

Not forgetting the likes of Tigertailz, Pretty Boy Floyd, Tuff, GnR, LA Guns, Pretty Maids, FM, Def Leppard, Enuff Znuff, Mr Big, yak yak yak

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 4,655 ✭✭✭Ph3n0m

Doctor J - have we just revealed our age or the fact that in our "wild" youth we listened to hair metal

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 11,848 ✭✭✭✭Doctor J

Speak for yourself, my good man, I just remember all these ****ehawks from staying up until 5:30am every Saturday morning to get the one good video that'd be shown on the Power Hour (or Raw Power, as it became) ;)

    You big girl's blouse :p

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 4,655 ✭✭✭Ph3n0m

I speak for everyone who got into metal in the 80s - you all, including me, listened to atleast one hair metal band, thinking they were cool - you cant lie to me, I was there, I remember it all - with your stretchies and white runner boots - oh the memories :)

and there was nowt wrong with Raw Power - even if the "one " good video was always the last one - with the lousy credits ;)

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 11,848 ✭✭✭✭Doctor J

Hey white boot runners were cool right up to 1990 :p

    Tesla, how could i forget?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,594 ✭✭✭Fozzy

Hmm..I completely forgot about Scorpions.. There's a band to contend with!

Krokus had some great stuff too! In general, I found the British hair metal bands to be bollox compared to the rest. In the grand scheme of it all though, they're all pretty ****e. Brilliant ****e

Faster Pussycat for some stupid but fun party vibes! great for bustin a few cans of beer to!

white runner boots and tight jeans were ok to 1993 ish.

It all went out the window when the heavy metal nights in mcgonnagles on a friday closed. back them bruxells was 50 / 50 boys and gals. today you 'd have a better chance of getting a chick in a queer bar than there! lol!

I pity the metal generation of today, I reckon they had no fun compared to the real metal years!!!

    Are the Scorpions hair metal?

And WASP? Well, I guess the...'non pretty' side of hair metal, lol

I'd go with Dokken though, because George Lynch made them a pretty good band.

Man it has to be Motley Crue.

Really like this is not even a contest.

    Albums like:

    Too Fast For Love
    Shout At The Devil
    Girls Girls Girls
    and
    Dr. Feelgood

Do not come out every day!! Maybe to many of your delight.
But its the Crue all the way every way!!

I scabbed their album name for a nick and have done for years!!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,481 ✭✭✭Blisterman

I love Motley crue. My MSN name is Dr Feelgood actually.
Also Poison, Ratt, Dokken, hanoi Rocks, Van Halen, Night ranger, Scorpions, Skid row etc.
    Im only 19 btw.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 238 ✭✭Dr.Feelgood

    Well Blisterman,

You better change your MSN now coz i'm the real Feelgood.

Ah no, eh been in to the crue about 6 or 7 years now I aint a whole bunch of years older than ya!!

Got into them at 15 or 16 heard Generation Swine, just kept buying the rest.
I started with and loved that little did i know the thrill i was about to embark on, best blind buy i ever made. Gave me so much to enjoy on the follow up.
    Did you read 'The Dirt'??

Never really listened to Hanoi Rocks although i heard Tommy Lee praise them before. Have some Skid Row stuff and some LA Guns stuff. But theres only one Crue.

    Rock on Blisterman.

I have been listening to the crue for the last 16 years which makes me positively ancient. I was delighted I finally got to see them a couple of weeks ago.
I would have killed to see the Dr.Feelgood tour tho, I dont think the crue ever played Ireland (tho someone will prob prove me wrong and say they played some shed in a suburb of Dublin)

The Dirt is a great read and probably the funniest biography out there.

Did you check out the Moscow Peace Festival with the Crue, Jovi, Skid Row, Ozzy, Cinderella plus some other screamers. Hair Metal Heaven.

I saw Motley Crue play at Castle Donnington as the opening act back around 1984ish
