I've already posted a thread in Accessibility / Mobility / Disability but due to the short time until the demonstration I thought I'd put a post up here too in case anyone is interested. Mods, if that's unacceptable then please delete.

To keep it short and to the point Dublin City Council have turned off some audible signals at pedestrian crossings because they may confuse sighted users, leaving blind and visually impaired users with no means to navigate these crossings independently.

Some have been turned off for a number of months and despite request to turn them back on they have refused to do so.

There is a demonstration this evening at 6:30 outisde city hall by blind and visually impaired people to voice opposition to this decision by Dublin City Council. I myself am not blind or visually imparied but i do feel that the present situation is unacceptable.
