im presenlty using winamp for all music but i dont link the controls in winamp for video
is there ny good alternative to wmp other than winamp that's well laid out, and ideally as close to wmp in appearance and functionality to wmp, but obviously a lot more stable
    thanks

    VLC, http://www.videolan.org/vlc/

THE best media player ever, plays EVERYTHING. Even DVD's and COMPLETELY ignores macrovision, region locks, everything.

Don't know about VLC, but Media Player Classic is very good. Has a noticeable CPU overhead compared to WMP 6.4 on my box though (don't use the higher versions - no point :) ) - but a better full-screen mode, IMHO.

VLC, the best, for all OS's

I like VLC too, its great on Windows but I've never been able to get the bugger to work properly on linux (Fedora and SuSE).
On an old laptop here that won't read DVD movies using the likes of powerdvd or wmp, VLC does the trick and works fine with them. The complete ignorance of region protection is great.
