China - Beijing & Shenzhen

Hi All

Anyone been to China? Is the food safe - should I get shots before I go?

hiya, i've been to both Beijing and Shenzhen, the food is perfectly fine but getting what you want could be tricky as very few people speak english (more so shenzhen) but its not hard to learn the basics.

may i ask why your going to shenzhen?
if you want to know anything at all, just ask.

The Tropical Medical Bureau here recommends shots for tetanus, typhoid and hepatitis A, no matter where you are going in China.

Worth mentioning, perhaps, is that it is customary in a typical Chinese restaurant to use the first pot of boiling tea to sterilize your cup, bowl and chopsticks. The food is always properly cooked though. Fruit should always be peeled and tap water should not be drunk without boiling first (flasks of boiled water are normally provided in hotels). That'll keep you safe.

was hoping that'd be the reason, not the most scenic of places as you'll soon find out, can be good craic though.
