As I wass walking (in a Monday morning daze) to my bus stop this morning I noticed a car about 50 yards ahead of me suddenly veer in my general direction, a van behind it swerved out of the way and the car ( a green punto) mounted the kerb and headed straight for me, I froze, then bang, it slammed into a concrete lamp post no more than 5 feet from me.

I think yer man fell asleep, naturally I asked if he was alright, did he need to use my phone etc. but he seemed to have whacked his head and muttered about needing a payphone and wandered off down the road. The car was completely trashed.

Anyway, saw my bus coming and hopped on but that sure woke me up. Strange thing was, yesterday afternoon the gf and I were watching some police camera thing and I said to her that I was strange I had never witnessed an accident !! spooky or what !

Just before christmas, I was walking home along a main road. A van tried to pull across from a little laneway, but was too slow. drove straight into the side of a car. Sent it into a stone wall, which collasped instantly. This happened literally less then 2 meters in front of me.

Naturally, I was like "Holy crap, is everyone okay?" It only dawned on me later that I could have been crushed and killed if i was a few more feet ahead....

thats why i always walk that little bit slower than everyone else.

Surely by walking slower you still run the same risk i.e. this time you don't pass the scene of the accident in time?

    Lucky escape dude.

Yesterday, my girlfriend was going home from Dublin to Arklow. She had originally planned to get the 4PM bus eireann bus, but decided to get the 3PM one instead. For whatever reason she and about 6 others missed the 3PM bus. It looked like they were going to have to wait for the 4PM one after all. Then one of the staff in Bus Aras told them he'd call the 3PM bus and get it to wait for them at UCD. So they hopped on another bus and met the one waiting for them. It's just as well, because the 4PM bus that she was originally going to get and nearly did get ended up flipped over in a field after a collision with a car just outside Arklow. 7 people in hospital, elderly driver of the car killed.

Here's my one, remember that bus crash on Wellington Quay two years ago that killed five? I was in town that morning and that's where I used to get my bus home from. I decided I'd meet a mate for coffee instead of going for that bus. Imagine the mayhem with which I was greeted when I finally wandered up there! That was my close call!

By the way Branoic, the bus didn't overturn, the car just went under it. The article is here

Sounds terrifying alright. Although I don't know if I would've left the scene. And the guy who went wandering looking for a payphone was probably concussed and should've stayed where he was.

Yeah I saw that article. However an RTE story yesterday said (and eye witnesses that I know confirmed) that both the bus and car ended up in a field, and the bus was not upright.
