Assistance needed getting money to NY

Hello, apologies if this the wrong forum, Mods please move as appropriate.

Am going on holidays to Florida in a august (hooray). My sister lives in NY, and I asked her to get me some swimming gear for my kids (the one's which cover all over and are sun-proof to prevent sunburn).

So she is coming home a few weeks before we travel and is bringing all the swimming gear with her. I was going to give her the money then, but...

Just got a mail from her asking for the money asap (she maxed out her Credit Card).

Anyone any advice on how to get the money to her? I think that sending cash (even by registered and insured post) would probably be stupid. I thought of travellers cheques - But I think that if I take them out, then I have to counter sign them?

A mate in work recently sent money by some type of bank order, but it took ages and cost him a small fortune.

    Anyone any advice?

    Thanks

I would add that Western Union is fast and reliable but that their commission structures are a rip off. They don't just charge a commision but also take a spread of up to 4% on the currency conversion. If its a small amount don't worry but if your into $1000 plus look to alternatives

Western Union or a bank draft. WU can have the money there within an hour.
