I remember some time back a few yrs ago someone asked, Could the Sky box be connected to a PC, My interest in this is that there is tons of great songs on the music channels and i wonder could they be transferred onto a pc and thus onto a Cd or MP3 player, I would also find it handy if this could be done to record my fav tv shows the simpsons etc onto a blank DVD.

I know that it probably can be done, But How ? and what do i need,

They may be issues about copyright with the music and tv shows etc, and i know all that, but i was just wondering could it be done, or are they encrypted like sky box office is encrypted in macrovision so you can't tape the films.

    Thanks for any info,

    Regards netwhizkid

I do this all the time. I've got a Pinnacle PCTV Sat DVB card, but I don't use the DVB section of it since its only FTA. But I feed an S-Video cable from my Grundig into the TV card, and the phono connectors into the sound card. AFAIK only Grundigs have an S-Video port (excluding Sky+ obviously). The software with the card allows me to record in DVD quality and the results are pretty amazing.

Any video capture card will do the job, but some are certainly better than others.

There's no protection on standard broadcasts, but there is Macrovision protection on Sky Box Office movies. I never tried recording one though so I don't know if it affects PCs.
