I'd have to go with those verdicts aswell, Down -v- Derry should be a good contest, and i think Carlow wont such push-overs against Limerick, there good untill the the final 15 minutes

As a Westmeath supporter I'm relatively happy with the draw but not overly confident of going through. Being without Dessie Dolan is a big issue and they weren't exactly convincing against Tipperary. Fingers crossed.

    it cant be a fix.

i think we will see a few upsets.you never know with kildare.2 years ago they went out to roscommon.carlow and limerick is 50/50.westmeath should go through as should meath.i think wexford will win.

    should be good.

I think it's a fix too. The Ulster draw allows the Ulster Council to have a nice double header at Clones with Cavan vs. Donegal followed by Down vs. Derry.

I guarantee that's what will be announced today. Makes up for Clones missing out on the Ulster final and keeps the businesses down there happy.

Any idea when they are announcing the times for these matches. I've a long way to travel so I need to be prepared.

They'll announce them at lunch time today or just after it.

Cheers Lemlin. I'll know where I stand then.

So annoying, just before the draw I said I hope Monaghan don't get Wexford or Derry...

I'm not sure about the double header idea, Derry are notoriously difficult and may have put pressure on to have their match in Casement, thats what they usually do!! If it was in Clones it'd be good though, I'd enjoy those matches.

Well if Matty Forde doesnt play (extremely unlikely) Monaghan have a good chance, however, Wexford do have a few good players around him now, it's just a matter of time before wexford win a trophy, whether its an All-Ireland, Leinster or even the League, anything will do!

Okay I am sick of this! Matty Forde is over-rated, when Wexford really need him he hides, a truely top class player performs when you need him! Wexford players like Colm Morris, Redmond Barry and Diarmuid Kinsella would get into any intercounty team and are often forgotten because on player occasionally runs up big scores!

But I expect Wexford to win, I am hoping to make the quarter finals! Wexford are progressing and very importantly gaining experience from losses to Armagh and Dublin!

    My winners would be:

    Monaghan -v- Wexford
    Carlow -v- Limerick
    Sligo -v- Kildare
    Louth -v- Roscommon
    Donegal -v- Cavan
    Down -v- Derry
    Westmeath -v- Clare
    Meath -v- Leitrim

Hopefully I'm wrong about Donegal though but Cavan have a dreadful record in the qualifiers. We've only ever won one qualifier game but Cavan prefer being the underdogs which is the one advantage we have.

    My predictions are as follows:

    Monaghan -v- Wexford
Carlow -v- Limerick very possible draw here but limerick to go through
    Sligo -v- Kildare
    Louth -v- Roscommon
    Donegal -v- Cavan
    Down -v- Derry
    Westmeath -v- Clare
    Meath -v- Leitrim

There will be some nice accumulaters here this weekend. They are a bit more difficult than 2 weeks ago. Not as many bankers in this one. Will be interesting to see how the bookies see it. No odds as yet on boylesports

Exactly, i'd stick John Hudson in aswell, although he didnt play that well against Dublin when he came on, because he was still carrying an injury and hadnt adjusted to the momentum of the game

Before this year how many truly big games have Wexford played?

I think you are absolutely raving. Its not taking from the rest of the team to acknowledge the fact that Mattie Ford would walk onto any team (kerry included) in the country.

Okay here are some examples, against Dublin three years ago he had the chance for a goal to win the game and blew it! Against Westmeath last year got himself sent off! Against Armagh in league final kicked very bad wides, from play and placed balls and the same against Dublin in the championship this year! When there is no pressure he runs up big scores!

Against this there is a preception that he carries the team on his shoulders! There are many fine footballers in Wexford that would make any county team in the country and also there are many players in the country superior to Mattie Forde! I have heard some crap in the past comparing him to Maurice Fitzgerald (for example), he is not in that league!

Bottom line, he is a good player, he is overrated, Wexford are not a one player team!

Overrated!!....take a while and look at his stats.....they dont lie...
Every manager would love to have him in their team

I know he is a good player but not that good! My point is he runs up big scores when there is no pressure! When those big games are needed against big teams he disappears, in a backs against the wall situation he cannot be relied on!

There are plenty of forwards as good if not better in Ireland e.g. Steven McDonnell, Colm 'Gooch' Cooper, Declan Browne but to name a few! He is not the best forward in Ireland!

How about we stick to the topic lads - the qualifiers, not Mattie Forde. Hopefully Cavan can do well witrh a home draw. I'd expect a lot of support to turn out.

5 consecutive weeks playing is too much, especially after the beating they just took. Can't see them going through.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 22,255 ✭✭✭✭Lemlin

The one thing we have on our side though is that Donegal have went 3 consecutive weeks now after their game and replay with Armagh.

Still, think the GAA should of left the game until next week like the Wexford vs. Monaghan game.
